Wiring for the front speakers.

For those with front components.. How did you run the speaker wire from the back? Something along the lines of the NTPOG write up?

I tried the NTPOG method for a long time. For anyone who's gotten it to work, I'm impressed.

I gave up & drilled some holes. Bought some little rubber grommets, looks decent. Yeah, you can see the wire in the door jam when you open the doors, but big deal. It stays tucked in, doesn't wear on anything, and looks pretty clean.

The stock wires aren't burly enough to handle much power. Off a deck, they'll be fine. Off an amp, you're going to get a lot of resistance.

Well, if the stock wires are anything like the stock integra wiring (which I've looked, and they do look to be the same thickness and quality), than I would say upto 75watts/channel should be fine. I ran 75watts to some pioneer components (not the best, but free), and they sounded clean cranked up. Although I believe anything 75watts or above is purely stretching it. Also, if you run the stock wires to the radio, and then some after market speaker wires from behind the console to the amp in the back, in theory, you would only have about 4 feet of actual stock wiring used, the rest would be aftermarket. Just make sure to make the connection between the stock and aftermarket wires REALLY good. Because its an excellent place for interference, as I found out. Hope that helps out.

I go by Blaupunkt's wiring recommendations - here.

I believe the stock wiring is 20 or 22 gauge - so upgrading when running an external amp is definitely a good idea. Wire of a smaller gauge will sound fine, but it creates a higher resistance - which can overheat an amplifier. You spend a lot of money on a amplifier to provide good clean power - why handicap it with crappy wire?

So to clarify, if I'm using aftermarket components and an amp, I should just run the speaker wire to the front and tap into the stock wiring? At which point in the car should I do that? Before the doors obviously.. :D
yes.. u do it on the aftermarket harness.
