Whenever it rains, the carpet on only the drivers side gets wet. It is not flooding though. The carpet is wet on top and the bottom of the carpet, which is plastic, have all this water drops like moist on it. I couldn't find any leaks from windows, moonroof, or the door. All other parts inside the car is dry, only the carpet on driver's side is wet. I'm can't find the problem. Any ideas?

Edit: It doesn't happen when I wash the car, only when it rains a lot. The car is 2000.

Rains a lot and driving, or just sitting?

If while driving, pull the carpet back and look for a missing body plug (can you see the ground? :) ). If it's while it just sits, make sure that drain for the sunroof isn't detached.

okay i went out and found what you were talking about...i took a bowl of water and poured a little to see where it goes...it drips down behind the wheel well on the front drivers side but nowhere inside the cabin

any idea on how to fix it?

i remember hearing about this on hp.com as a common problem among 3rd gens....didn't know it would continue onto 5th gen

The design is pretty much unchanged from the original Prelude, so...

If the drains all work OK, all I can suggest is to remove the carpet where it gets wet, make sure everything is dry, then go to town with the hose. Try and find out where it's coming in.

If it's just while it's sitting that it's wet, it has to be something fairly high on the car. The sunroof might be leaking so much that the tubes can't handle the runoff, then the water spills over and makes its way down the A pillar to the floor. Do you normally park on an incline (pointed down)? The windshield seal is probably but not likely, my guess is that it's something with the sunroof...

I checked my car... there is a leak spot in the windshield..which sucks ass... dunno about the carpet.. unless you have a hole in the firewall and the water is dripping through there.

I continously poured water from a full gatorade bottle and I don't think anything is wrong with that (Although I might be wrong, I don't think it would leak more than that or rain that hard).

The car is parked at about 10 degrees at the most with the rear pointing down. Which led me to...

...a more careful obervation: toward the back (and under the driver's seat) is more wet and squishy while the most front being relatively dry. Also towards the middle of the car is more wet than to the outside (but not parked on angle from side to side).

This one is getting tricker than I thought. I'll have to look into it more after the finals. Thanks for the help.

Sounds like it's coming from the back, then. I'd suggest removing as much of the rear interior as you can and redoing what you did.

From what I hear if the trunk seal leaks it will fill up the rear tire well and slosh forward. Might check under there for water.

My 3g has a leak at the rear window (seal) that drains down into the back seat. Almost impossible to check unless you have visible damage at the window/seal back there.

Remove the rear seat and pull the carpet up and mop up the wet, if nothing else you need to prevent it from molding.

holy smokes...I remember that happening to my 89 Prelude when I was in HS. It used to piss me off b/c the smell of moist carpet was stank. I found out later that the car was reconstructed from a major accident, not that I could tell. I threatened to sue the dealer for not telling me and they took the car back. Was your car ever hit? Maybe there's a crack in the underbody. :(

OK I took out the rear seats, and checked the trunk and everything and they were all dry. The seat was completely dry and no water was gathering in the trunk like some other thread said.

And no I bought the car new, never been in a accident.

And it's defenitely not wet shoes.

Sorry to resurrect this old post, but what was the solution to this? I don't have water in my trunk or my rear seats, just on the rear passenger floor and under the drivers seat! The front drivers floor is slightly wet, probably from the water under the seat. The carpet above the floor is completely dry all around. its just the floor that's wet. this happened twice already after driving it in the rain. I'm gonna take out the drivers seat and lift the carpet and see if any plugs are missing. Just wanted to see if anyone found the problem yet. I have a 2000 base. Thanks for any more input!

I have a leak from my windshield, that leaks down on the passenger side and runs along down behind the dash over to the drivers side. It really pisses me off. When my car got broken into, I asked the guy who replaced my window what may be causing this. He said the looked to have had the windshield replaced at one time or another, and that the guys who put it in did a ****ty job. He said that the molding along the door frame that the windshield sits under is a tricky part to reinstall. He said that you have to lay almost a perfectly straight bead of windshield adhesive underneath this piece and if you dont it will often leave small wholes for water to get through, leading to the leaks I am having. Maybe this will answer some of your questions about leaks. I know it pisses me off everytime it rains.
