I had this exact problem this weekend. i used an extractor from home depot (Canadian tire had it too) i drilled the middle of the screw and the extractor took it out. use a wrench to extract it, not a drill. the drill will only sort of drill into it more (trust me).

Peter, they are talking about the Distributor Cap and Rotor. Not brake rotors.

Sorry, about that. But just a reminder, the screws on your BRAKE rotors are not needed.

Also if you use hawk pads, don't put their shims on.

If I were to use the dremel and cut away the plastic rotor pieces, what do you do when you reach the metal core that the screw screws into? how do you get that part out? I dont wana go in and start cutting it up and not be able to get the whole thing out...

 

Im gona try the easy out extractor bit... but I have to drill through the old one that broke off and its hard as sheet... I have a titanium drill bit, if that wont drill through, any ideas on a harder bit?

 

and it's difficult to use a cutoff wheel at a 90 degree angle as there are other parts blocking you from positioning the dremel in that position, maybe with a few attachments it may work, but a screw extractor is your best bet

long story short, screw extractor ended up loosening it up enough.

 

You should get the craftsman stripped screw removal tool. I see the ad on tv late night, LOL!!!! good plug...yes good plug...

 

i second the dremel a new slot into the screw. i've done it.

 

This has happened to me before...I used a cutting blade on my dremel and cut away the rotor piece by piece until I could get a needle nose vice around the screw to take it off.

 

Use a cutting blade on a dremel, grind a new slot in the end of the screw so you can get a flathead screwdriver bit on it. (Gently) use an impact driver if you think you'll strip it again.

 

Im not really sure what dremeling off the screw head would accomplish as far as removing the whole screw.... do you mean dremel off the screw part with the broken bit in it? then re drill and tap?

 

I know for a fact another member had this problem. I don't know how they fixed it though. You could try dremeling off the screw head...
