P0740 code...now what??

Hey guys,

I'm trying to get my car to pass inspection but i keep getting these two codes, P0700, P0740. I know it's something to do with the A/T but what can i do to start finding out exactly what the problem is? I was reading the HELMS manual but i'm still not sure....i read something on google that the Transmission Control Module could be bad. I just hope i don't have to replace tranny!!

anyone have any ideas what i could start checking?

The HELMS has the troubleshooting procedure for all ECU codes. Just find it and follow directions.

has there been anyone with a bad TCM in their prelude?

Yes, also bad wiring and other things can cause the code.

i'm convinced it's something electrical because the tranny only acts up in extreme heat. all winter long it was fine

I would say that is mechanical and a description of one of the main problems with the AT. They tend to die with long usage and prolonged heat.

aw thats what i was afraid of. what kinda price am i looking at to rebuild or replace?

P0740 code...now what??
