ha, cmon now, you guys know if he goes turbo, that engine will be trash in under 1 year. Unless he invests in some rods. These are really some Big plans for someone who cannot afford h22 swap. Ok built bottom end, how much are we looking at what sleeves 200-300$ before installation, im assuming install isnt cheap. Pistons, if you get a good deal 200-300$, what else, timing belt, head gasket, theres another 150$. Rods 400-900$. Then assembly and other misc parts. Im sure were looking at $1500+ most likely with no power gain or possibly loss if you build for turbo. Then turbo your looking at a minimum of 1500$ again. Then on top of that, if your pushing that much power, stuff is going to break, how long on that stock clutch? Not long, there goes another 300$.

h22 swap w/ecu $1450. This is a fun reliable engine , with good power.

But im not doggin the f22, with that engine stock, and a h23 trans i ran like 15.9 or 15.7 at Lacr. Thats as good as alot of 5th gens i have seen run. Im sure with a little tuning that engine can run low 15s, well with h23 trans.

The other option is throwing a vtec head on that f22 bottom end. 350$ for a head, 100$ for h22 water pump, you need a h22 water pipe, h22 thermostat housing, h22 headgasket/timing belt 150$ another 250$ for the ECU. Again i guess were looking at about 1000$ after everything, im not sure what the compression would come out to on that engine, but i bet it isnt much lower than h22 since the stroke is longer. But the problem there is that that bottom end wont last.

IMO, most likely the best bang for the buck, swap your trans with a jdm vtec trans or Si trans. This will give you alot more acceleration, it will be a noticable difference, but, there goes your fuel mileage.

if ur a responsible driver and u do preventative maintance(sp?) on ur motor, u can have a boosted f22 last on 8-10psi for a long time

now if u spend the time, u can piece a decent kit for less than anything drag, revhard, greddy, or any other turbo kit on the market for any honda motor.

i have an f22 and ill say it, no its not worth it and on another note for boosting i think we do comparativley well, id say better than the h22's

i'd say this...

if you're not going F/I.... save your money for a H22 swap....

other than that... go for it..... build up that f22.... you'll probably be able to turn some heads.... then again it'll cost you some money... but what doesn't..

well, it depends what you want to build on top of it, really. like a book case or a tv stand. but i would not recommend it seeing that the motor is not very sturdy unless you lay it on its back without the intake manifold....

they are good motors, just dont have lots of potential.

if ur on HT, u want to search for the user name "niedejb" the admin turned the search off at the moment, or i'd post the link. stock block, he makde 250whp, all it took was a good tune.

wise up fellas, f22 turbo owns h22 n/a

I just dont see anyone running 200+ Hp on a stock bottom end and having it last. I guess i have NO Faith on the stock bottom end, i have been through 5 bottom ends, dont even get me started on why. But at this point im afraid to run stock rods.

But whatever, i dont know why im arguing, F22 can be a strong turbo motor, Im only suggesting that someone who is short on $$ would be better off playing it safe and going with a more dependable setup.

if its a budget build and ur goals are for more power, i think the h22 will get people the results they want

if its a budget build and they want more than just a slight increase, boosted f22

if they are going to spend a moderate amount of money, built f22

if sky is the limits, fully built a h22

those are my suggestions

F22B2, stock iron sleeves, lower compression, big stroke, put on an H22 or H23 head and boost the *****. because its H23 head you can use a DSM manifold and bone yard parts ...

you'll save lots and over time get real parts .. also, you can use forged pistons and rods since the stock sleeves are iron.. a slight hone and your laughing

i know one dude that pull ok number with his f22 when he had it. if your going to fix up your f22, i would suggest that you buy parts that both the f22 and h22 can use.

Intake, and exhaust are ok to do. and well that is it. but i know my buddy also did a high flow cat, found a cheap f22 header, and advance the timing. that will prob be cheap mods, that will hold you till you get a h22

the biggest reason why F22 (A1-A4-A6-B2 etc...) is the fact that the block has iron sleeves...any engine builder can and will tell you steel or iron will hadle boost the best. almost nice all u need is bearings, forged rods, pistons and rings, the f22 block will handle a good deal of boost

it's worth it due to the originality aspect of it and it's better for turbos than the H series motors. I know a modded F22A1 that has 200 whp. The kid spent less money going that route. He would have spent 2 times more importing an H series motor from Japan and paying to swap it.

it all depends on situation and future plans. If 200hp is enough for you, then you can get your F22 to reach that mark. If ye want to reach more than 250hp then the H series is the best way to go, and that's why the H is more popular.
