Autopower 4-Point Race Roll Bar on 5th Gen?

Anybody have the Autopower 4-Point Race Roll Bar on their 5th Gen? Or even 4th Gen? I am interested in buying one for autocross/HPDE's because it seems it's a safer alternative to a harness bar, and it isn't that much more expensive than a harness bar either.

The main concern I have is if it will limit the driver's area. I am 6-feet tall and I need the most leg room and headroom. This means I have to slide the seat back pretty far, and also tilt the seat back to get enough headroom.

I'm looking into buying a Recaro SPG or Pole Position race bucket and bolting it to the floor (fixed position, without rails/sliders) to gain a few much needed inches of headroom though. Yes I know buckets aren't allowed in STS... only for HPDE's. Does anyone have experience with either of these seats? Also, does anyone know where I can get a custom bracket made?

hey

I have a 97 SH with the Auto power cage installed. I got the race bar with the horizontal harness bar. I optioned to get them all removable which I am SO glad I did.
There are some limits to the seating. I am 6'3. I had to make some changes to my position to fit. Nobody was able to help with anything as far as what fit and where so I ordered and took my chances. I fit for everday driving but helmets get in the way. They always have in every car so that is nothing new for me. I cannot get you photos but I would be happy to measure and describe ANYTHING in regards to this. You can phone me if you would like to talk directly just PM me and I will shoot you my number.

Install was very easy. I did by myself and it took four and half hours, with help I could have done it in less then half of that easy. Trying to reach the bolts inside the wheel well and the inside the car by myself was a stretch. Plus I was doing it in the drivway by flash light... for real !! Hey I couldn't wait...

I am hoping to add to this bar. I am thinking of adding some door type bars about half way up and have them come forward to the dead pedal on a slant, more stiffness and protection from side impact.

WOW... how does someone who is 6'3" even fit in a Prelude?! I am 6'0" and I am already busting through the roof!

Does the harness bar bend to give the driver enough reclining room? Also, by saying that your helmet gets in the way, are you trying to imply that the bar (main hoop) actually sits on top or even in front of of the headrest? What do you mean by the helmet getting in the way?

What kind of changes to your position are you talking about?

Thanks for your help.

WOW... how does someone who is 6'3" even fit in a Prelude?!

Is that like the how do porcupines mate thing ?

Anyways I just went out into the SNOW for this...

Ok the seat for me sits two clicks forward from max on the sliders get a flashlight and stick your head under the drivers seat the teeth engage like four at a time on both sides the last tooth is in the third to last slot leaving two more clicks back for Max seat travel. The Main hoop is even with your upper seat belt mount. the bar is like two fingers from sitting on the passenger gas tank verticle the foot keeps it from sitting flush tight. OK so far?? your seat recliner hits the main bar and prevents it fom sliding ALL the way back. So slide it all the way back and then bump ONE slot forward and that is the MAX on the sliders with the bar installed.

Recline is limited by the horizontal bar and the upper seat belt harness. The head rest and the seat both sit against that tight.

Pull your recline up and then push it back so that it locks full forward, now count recline clicks. I get three clicks and then the seat and the head rest are tight against. This is with the slider in the third to last slot. You can slide back one more slot but you lose one recline click to do it.

So slider in the third slot, three clicks recline is where I sit.

slider in the second to last slot, you can have two recline clicks and that is the max

now the passenger side is really tight. The diag. bar sits in front of the harness bar and holds that way forward. like WAY! the diag. just clips the drivers right seat back and then holds the passenger seat forward. But nobody rides ***** anyways... ( my girls is 5'3 ) so she fits but if your gonna carry someone over 5'9 don't hit anything...knees in the dash.

I ride with the tilt wheel full lowand kinda straddle the whole thing, heal toeing is backwards for me. heel on brake toe on gas becase of the whole knee wheel thing. I prefer to sit with the wheel closer but not so upright. I wish our tilt wheel also had fore, aft.

The main bar is behind the head rest tight against the roof so that is not really a risk to hit with your head. I padded it anyways.I padded the diag. as well, down to the passenger left shoulder. The passenger head will not hit main bar beacause the seat is so far forward, but the diag. is a risk to hit from that side.

helmets: well it is the roof that messes with me there not the bar

Pure Racing Harness Bar bends toward the rear of the car to allow move room for the seat. I have not changed any of my seat setting since the bar was installed (I'm 6'-3" and 225, so need room).

You can't recline the seat all of the way back with the harness bar, but you can recline it to a point beyond the normal driving position (I would give a good estimate of 60 degrees from rear seat).

Here is the image (again). The seat in this picture is at the normal driving position (you can see the space behind the seat). If you look at the left side of the picture you can see a vertical bar, that is what actually restricts you from reclining the seat farther.

Wow T-Bohn, that was very informative. I didn't expect/want you to go through all that trouble just to get some numbers... a vague idea of how I would fit would've been good. But thanks a lot! I will definitely try the 3-clicks slide/3-clicks recline and see if it will be a comfortable enough fit for me...

Also, you said that the passenger side was really cramped. Will getting a removable harness bar and diagonal bar alleviate that problem?

Again, many thanks!

hey

Well I gave you all the info because I was so pissed off when I was looking and no one could help me, so that now that I have one in the car no one will suffer for lack of info...

As far as the passenger side if you get the bars removable you have full range on both sides, well except for the recline handle hitting the main hoop so you lose one slider click, on the passenger side same deal.

I really like having the bars removable. I leave them in all the time and just carry two 14mm wrenches to pull them out. It takes five nut/ bolts and about 2 min to do. You can pull these bars out while someone is standing there waiting and no one loses their cool. The fit of the bars is spot on so reinstalling to JUST as easy. Worth the 100 buck for sure. I got them to insure that I would fit in the car one way or another. I kept my fingers crossed and lucked out.

I got mine from I/O port racing, shipping was 125 bucks to the East coast and was quicker then expected.

feel free if you need more specs. Glad to help in any way.

LOL yeah you have to drill some holes

I took the rear panels out of the car and am just going with out them looks like a real PITA to get the holes lined up and clean to reinstall the rear plastics so i just skipped it. Besides it is BEHIND you and there for unimportant ( isn't that the first rule ) I think about putting them back in but don't think I could do it with any real skill and make them look good

No other mods required....

Can I use Elmers school glue?, I have plenty laying around the house

I thought you weld the weld the plates directly on the car, instead of bolting.

Anyway, I was looking at the available rollbars available, I ran into this one:

Its called the Street-race-roll bar. They say it requires no modification of interior panels. My question is how are you suppose to mount the rear supports without removing any pieces?
