if it was legal, would you put an aftermarket steering wheel on your car and loose the airbag?

does anyone know how much the airbag actually helps?

i look too good to risk revoming the airbags. it would make all them ladies cry if i wrecked...hehehe

seriously, i am a huge fan of this feature- just in case.

i wish we had a replacement wheel that utilized the airbag. Like the racing wheel on the wrx's- airbag intact(MOMO).

Is there anywhere you can buy the 3-spoke Type-S steering wheels that were sold in other markets? From the pictures I've seen they have both cruise control and SRS mounted on them... they may even be made by MOMO like the JDM ITR wheels. If we could find a place that sells used ones, it seems like it should be a plug and play swap, no matter if you have a base or an SH.

Ouch!! That had to suck. Anyways, Hi Viktor!! Keep the airbag!! It might come in handy one day. Plus, what if you get pulled over by some jerk cop? You told me how strict they were ober there, you know they'd bust your ass for that. Or get that JDM S2K one. I just fell in LOVE with that one!!! I'l bet it's sooo expensive, though.:bigthumb:

hi!! believe it or not, the airbag is one thing they don't care about over here.

whats the american s2000 wheel like? is it perfectly round?

todd, that pic has got to hurt... =/

I don't know what the JDM S2k one is like, but I like the one my USDM S2k has. I was going to put in my Sparco wheel from the Prelude until I realized that the S2k wheel was identical in size and thickness... I just sold the Sparco and kept the stock wheel.

I'd suggest the S2k wheel if you want to keep an airbag. But honestly... I've been in enough accidents without airbags to not care if they are there or not.

For those thinking about going with S2k wheels, remember that the same wheel is also found in the Insight... dunno if it is cheaper there or not (or even if it has a different part number). Another wheel I'm wondering about is the new Civic Si hatchback's 3-spoke wheel. It also has SRS and cruise controls. I looked at one today and was thinking about how nice that would look in the Prelude. The black leather with red stitching on it would match my leather seats and shiftknob with the same pattern.

what i've heard is, the insight wheel has a thinner rim. but i havent actually compared them myself. maybe i should swing by a dealership and check it out one day. but if it really is thinner, and i'm gonna spend all that money for a wheel anyway, then i might as well spend a little bit more and get that beefier wheel

Thanks for the info... I just assumed they were the same because they look exactly alike. Grrr... all this talk about wheels is making me obcessive about it. Before the end of the summer I'll probably have one on there. I mean, the USDM Prelude wheel is good for cruising and interstate driving (which is what most four spokes are made for) but it is simply not befitting of the spirited driving and corner carving this car demands that you do with it. When I switch from the CRX to the Prelude I really miss the control and quick steering response that the small three spoke gives, even without the aid of power steering. You simply have much more grip due to the 3-spoke, and you don't have to turn the wheel even half as far to take the corners because of the smaller size.

BTW, I've heard that if you get an aftermarket or another OEM wheel for the Prelude SH you have to make a notch or something in the wheel for the ATTS to work properly... something about a steering angle sensor required for the system. Does anyone know exactly what this means and what you have to do to the wheel? I don't want to lose ATTS, or even worse, make it to do weird stuff and cause an accident...
