Any 15" wheel with a reasonable offset will fit, as long as you've got stock diameter brakes.
A wider tire gives you a larger contact patch, and theoretically more grip. But if you don't increase your wheel width to match, you can end up "bowing" the tire, and reducing stability and/or contact patch.
Other than the obvious advantage of more grip, the disadvantages are more expensive tires, increased hydroplaning tendency, increased weight, and often the tire will follow imperfections in the road more than they used to.
