with a 7.5" wide wheel...try going for 45 or higher, to limit rubbing...

I have a +50 offset on my AVS

I have 18x7 wheels with a +42 offset and ~2" drop with no rubbing. It is however very close. The +40 offset will be pushing it, but with such a small drop you should be ok.

well,if it's really tight with the 215's, will it be totally safe with 205's....or still 'iffy'

I've got 215/40/17 with a 17x7 rim with a 40mm offset - no problems at stock height. If I lowered it then it could rub (the fenders). However, the size of your rims and tires have much more affect than the offset. A half an inch (going from 6.5 to 7) is increasing the size of the rim by 12.5mm or increasing the outer edges of the rim by 6.75mm. So when you here 45mm and up for offset is good - well that really depends on how wide the rim is (and the tire).
