What the heck did i hit?

1908 Views 31 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  bronx99
I was going up this parking lot driveway.. and something went THUMP!.. or was it a POP!.. but i have no idea what it was.

My car is dropped 1.4" with OEM kit.. in the morning i jacked up my car and checked everything under the car,.. and nothing seem to be scratched or anything.

The driveway looked like a incline/decline hill..

/\

and i heard the noise when my car was in the middle of the arch..

anybody have any ideas? I'm being paranoid..

you probably hit something on the front right under the plastic cover, there is a lot of metal there, my friend freaked out also, it should be fine, it makes a really relaly loud noise though

middle of your car? could be the resonator on your exhaust's b-pipe.
hehe.. because of my stupid curiosity.. i had a friend with a MAGLIGHt flash light sit there as i went over it AGAIN! (BAD IDEA BTW).. and this time it didn't make a POP sound.. it made a SSSCCRRAATTCHHH sound.. AARGG!!.. i thought it was my side skirt, but no scratches whatsoever.. man this curiosity is killing me.
It sounds like it might be the b-pipe. Do you have an after-market exhuast system ??

Middle of the car it can't really be much eles unless one of your side skirts is lower on one side than the other or perhaps both ?

I have done the same thing once or twice...... it was the tow hook in the center of the front, that might be what you hit as well!!!!
it could be the plactic underguard stuff, the tow hook or eesh..the exhaust
a bong???

Resist, and you'll be overcome
Maybe you popped your car's CHERRY? hahahaha.. i say the resonator? just a guess..

I think you hit the bottom of the header the first time which explains the "thump" and in the process bent it. The ssecond time around it only scraped because it's bent up thus allowing more clearance and no more "thump"

If I were paranoid REALLY bad, I'd put your car up jackstands and look EVERYWHERE underneath.

yup, definitely a bong.

ok on a more serious note, i think luded has a good point. just today i went from a restaurant/shopping center out onto the road, and it was an up-slope to a curb that went down into the street. looked like /\ (look familiar?
).

so yea, two of my friends were in my car and i heard a scrape. i already know it's from my exhaust piping since it's hanging lower than the stock was. yet another reason to get a new exhaust... sigh...

haha that part about the 'curiousity' run killed me.

it could be the tow hook, the header, the cat, or the resonator. i've hit ALL of them.
anyway, check that... if not, then hopefully it's not your oil pan.

and oh, btw, my lude is NOT lowered. see what we have to deal with in NYC???

If it was a huge metallic THUD, then it was probably that blasted tow hook.

Any chance it was your muffler? I bottom out all the time on mine. They hang lower than you think....
