You shouldn't need to clean it! If you insist, I'd remove the MAP sensor before you do anything, then use Simple Green or some brake parts cleaner.

I agree. It is my friends throttle body on his 4th gen. He has a turbo and for some reason it's dirtier than normal. He figured he would clean it. Thanks.

mine had some gunk build up(93 w/ 65kmiles) so I took it out and cleaned it with STP throttle body cleaner. the buildup was esp bad on the side that faces the intake manifold. not anything too bad, just enough to bother someone anal like me.

then i looked inside the intake mani and saw some filth so i sprayed that down just a tad.

now my tb is sparkling clean.
