I will be waxing my care hopefully tomorrow. I know all the basics and how to wax and all but I was wondering if I should use dishwasher detergent to get the wax off the car that is now or should I just wash it regularly and just put the wax on over the old wax.

Removing the wax isn't really necessary unless you're going to polish the paint, in which case it is better to work with a clean surface. I would just wash the car with car wash soap then dry it off and wax.

You shoudl never use dish soap to wash a car. Too many abrasives in it. If you need to get teh wax off, then use cleaner on a buffer. But never uuse dishwash soap.

That's not entirely true. There are many people who swear by Dawn, but it WILL remove the wax, so only use that when you have the time to apply new wax. I've never had a problem with it.
