Well I'm not quite sure where to post this, but anyways... I've been wanting a V2 intake because I've been hearing good things about them. Well I got to see pictures of it without the filter on, and there is a pipe inside the bigger diamater pipe. Does anyone know if this smaller pipe has openings in it to make the larger outerpiping functional, or is AEM ripping all of us a new one?? Thanks!!
I have pictures, but it's telling me that they are the wrong format when I try and upload them.. just holla at me if you want me to e-mail them to you.

To quote AEM's website

"The AEM V2 utilizes a dual chamber (using two different diameters and lengths of piping) that creates multiple frequency sound waves to produce the largest area under the curve of any intake system on the market. These sound waves help charge the cylinders with more air throughout the entire rpm range and are what enables the V2 to outperform even our own Cold Air systems"

I don't think the smaller piping has holes in it... Or at least when I glanced at mine it didn't...

Don't know if the power gain is really there, but man it sounds GREAT!

Ya i've read the reviews and all that sound wave bull****, but they don't show a diagram of how it's made...
Because if the inner piping doesnt have any openings in it other than where the filter is,the outer, larger diameter, piping doesn't serve any purpose (ie. no suction) but to 'look' bigger.

 right?

Or is the smaller piping mounted so that it's sort of 'floating', but doesn't attach where the outer piping connects to the smaller piping? If that makes sense...

Your first thought is correct... the smaller piping is the actual intake the larger piping is the sound chamber (for lack of a better term)... I'm not an engineer, and I can't say for sure if the "sound chamber" is for looks or actually serves a purpose.

I can say this however, the sound is incredible over a regular short ram intake (i had an injen befor)... I can't be positive that there is a slight increase in power, but I believe there is one, granted its not going to be a huge increase like strapping on a turbo or supercharger, (and most people will probably not even notice a power increase, most will just notice the sound and believe there is a power increase mentally) However I have nothing to backup my claims of a power increase so take it with a grain of salt

^^ Ya, I see what your saying, but it just makes me cautious because they never show exactly how this state of the art intake works... you know? Was just hoping someone has had the same thoughts and found the answer.

how about this

Do this
1) go here and install AlternaTiff and register your download (it's free so no worries)

http://www.alternatiff.com/

then go here
http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=/netahtml/PTO/srchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=6959679.PN.&OS=PN/6959679&RS=PN/6959679
this is the US Patent office website showing the patent that AEM applied for on the V2 intake

Click on the images button or click the following link
http://patimg2.uspto.gov/.piw?Docid=06959679&homeurl=http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1%26Sect2=HITOFF%26d=PALL%26p=1%26u=%252Fnetahtml%252FPTO%252Fsrchnum.htm%26r=1%26f=G%26l=50%26s1=6959679.PN.%26OS=PN/6959679%26RS=PN/6959679&PageNum=&Rtype=&SectionNum=&idkey=NONE&Input=View+first+page
this will show you the AEM design

I doubt that you are going to get a good image from anyone showing the inside tube... the angle of the piping, you just can't get a good image...

But looking over the patent forms you can see that the inner tube has no holes in it... and the outter tube is enclosing it with the filter on

Hope this helps.

I'm not sure about actual HP gains or how it compares to other CAIs, but the sound is great when you punch the gas. I also noticed much better lower RPM power. Probably the only car product I've ever bought that actually does what it's advertised to do. Starting out from a stop requires much less "goosing" of the throttle. My 2 cents...
