Oh, yeah. It's also the fastest way to take out a lightpole. You didn't know?

Your friend isn't very smart. Using the handbrake is a good way to spin, nothing more. It defeats ABS, reduces traction in the rear, and will flatspot your tires if you spin much. In short, don't do it- it doesn't do anything productive.

It's a hell of alot of fun though

But this is something you DO NOT try on the open street. This is not something you try through trial and error. The car gets away from you VERY easily. Two things will happen if you try it: 1) you'll wrap your car around a light pole or tree. 2) you'll piss in your pants because you just barely avoided wrapping your car around a light pole or tree.

Here's a link for ya.

Todd is right, that by far is the dumbest way to enter a corner. I could see if you were palying around in a parking lot with snow and ice. Gezz what kind of car does he drive, an escort!!

Hahaha..the only times I have ever used a handbrake was in the arcade...that Tokyo Racing car game...that's a badass game.

It's only a fast way to corner around really tight corners on low traction surfaces, i.e. rallies. You burn off too much speed with the tires locked on pavement, that's if you don't turn around and end up A55-end forward into a streetlight.

It's not the fastest way through a corner if you're really racing - it's wildly inefficient.

Rally drivers use it on slow dirt corners, and it's fun on snow or wet roads with NO ONE around and no curbs to hit. Otherwise, it's just plain harsh on your car.

yeh i dont recommend doing it on the streets. But i done it before in an open parking lot. and it was FUN!!! but it does mess up your tires a little bit..but i didnt care, the tires sucked and i was getting new ones anyways.

Andy - who the hell told you THIS...!? Geez, whoever it was apparently doesn't know anything about the dynamics of a car.

Show up to the next race and see how it's really done........

yeah i only do it when i am on a surface that isn't dry pavement. there are a lot of dirt roads where i live and i go out there all the time and drift around every turn. it is a lot of fun, but you should definately practice in a big open area first so you know how your car reacts at different speeds and how long you should have the e-brake on for, etc.

Don't do that **** on the street. You'll kill someone...or probably yourself. Thats just drifting...not much to it. Depends on how fast your going...under 50 you should be able to control your car and keep it going the direction you want to with your steering wheel. Yes it does hurt your car though. And it isn't at all the fastest way to take a corner because you have to bring the RPM back up for power. Practice at a race coarse. It is pretty fun though. Be careful.

both the cables running back to the back brakes for the handbrake on the civic are broken..
it's much better in snow cause you don't have to go fast to 'get the drift'. Do it in a parking lot and play it safe. Of course, I started doing it on the dry pavement and I'm damned to a life of parking in first gear now.

get some trays, courtesy of you local BK or McD's. drive to a large empty parking lot. put you back tires over the the trays, pull your e-brake. And gas it. Its a lot safer, and it doesnt fvck upo ur tires. but after about 1-2 mins they get hot and start to melt, so dont do it too much. Have fun
