To those with konis and/or Groung Control Coilovers on an SH...

1. What perch setting do you have the konis at?

2. Anything specific for our cars to look out for with this install?

3. Any suggestions at all--how do you like it?

I will be installing this week.

Anybody????????????
I want to know this too. I will be installing mine next weekend.
Hey Chris, finally got your suspension, huh.
I think from what I've heard, you might want to try the lowest perch setting up front, and the middle in the rears. For some reason, the SH sits uneven after you drop it, then again, you have the GC, so you could just adjust it that way.

Some people have said that ridding on the lowest perch is a)not suggested by Koni--like they wont warranty it or something, and b) could cause you to quickly blow your shocks, don't know how true this is.

Good luck on the install, and hopefully I'll see you at the next autox, I won't make the one this weekend.

Hows the ride w/ur setup compared to stock?
I'm interested about all this too...I FINALLY got my Konis today (my GCs came in two weeks ago). On a separate note, especially with you guys that just got the Konis, what is the part number for the SH version? Mine for the front says "8041-1232-SPORT (2) PRELUDE 97-00 (excl. SH)"...is that correct? For the rears "PRELUDE 92-97 8041-1155-SPORT"...is that right too?

That is what mine say too.

Btw I have a 2000 prelude SH.

Do your GC sleeves fit tight on the Koni's? In other words, do the sleeves sit on the c clip on the Koni's or do you have to use the spring perch?

I have to say that when I first got it, I was surprised at how much stiffer the car was, but after a few I either got used to it or maybe the alignment helped.

The ride is so so so much better now, there is no noticeable weight transfer under turns/braking or acceleration. By playing with the stiffness of the shocks I honestly think I've elliminated any oversteer (and I still have the stock sway bar, honestly don't even know if I'll get one now).

I don't know...I won't be able to install it (with the help of whitehondalude) until Monday
. So, the "EXCL. SH" means 'exclusive', and not 'excluding'? I might call Koni directly Thursday to make sure.

k. alexander, do you have the lowest perch setting as you suggested? If you have the settings the same for front and back, does the front seem too high or something?

t
wait... so Koni has a different part #'s for the base and the SH???
When I was ordering them from shox.com (also called ASI), I got the impression that the SH version is different from the base, something like it is shorter (?) than the base version. The invoice says "8041-1232-SPORT (2) PRELUDE 97-00 (EXCL. SH)". The part number is correct, but it's the "EXCL. SH" part that I don't know about...is it 'exclusive' or 'excluding'? I called Koni directly, but all I got was a voicemail. Anyone else know about this? I don't wanna install this if the front struts that I have was meant for the base.

The part numbers you listed are for the base model. Koni doesn't make any shocks for the SH. The stock SH springs are longer and smaller in diameter (1" longer in front, but same length in the rear) and don't fit too well on the Koni spring perches. However, if you're swapping out the springs, then you can go ahead and use the Koni's on your SH.

ok, so basically as long as the springs and shocks are swapped out at the same time, then it would make no difference.... right?

Yes. It should work fine.

If you compare the base, SH, and Koni shocks, the mounting points are the same and the overall length of the shocks are the same. The SH has a slightly lower spring perch than the base/Koni's to compensate for the longer springs. The spring perch difference is 20 mm, coincidentaly the same distance of the front grooves on the Koni's.

The problems with Koni's and SH springs is that the spring perch doenst fit too well. However, in Jacques case, the GC coilover sleeves make this issue irrelevant, since you dont use the Koni spring perches in this situation.

FYI, I have Koni's on my SH and I still use my stock SH springs. The rear's are very snug against the spring perch and took a while (~200 miles) for them to settle on the perch (on initial installation, they weren't entirely seated on the perch). For the front's, I used a Civic/Integra Koni spring perch, which fit perfectly (and I used the lower groove for the spring perch).

Pork Chop, thanks (again) for the info. I'm still thinking about your suggestion on helmets for autocrossing.

Anyways, concerning the Koni struts, why did it refer in my invoice "EXCL.SH", if they are the same for both base and SH? Also, is the GCs the same for both base and SH, or is there a difference, since you said the SH springs are longer and smaller than the base? The shox.com guy said that the GS coilovers are different for base and SH,contrary to what I've heard so far. I tried to get a hold of Koni, but their office is closed until April 2nd
. This is frustrating!

I think "EXCL SH" means excluding SH.

Someone on hondaprelude.com emailed Koni in regard to using their shocks for an SH and their official reply claimed that they dont work on stock SH springs or aftermarket springs based on the SH. I guess they are unaware that they do fit as long as you find the correct size spring perch.

I'm not sure whether GC has different part numbers for the base and SH coilover sleeves. As far as I know, I think they only make one for the base model.

BTW, what springs are you going to use?

Can you just take the sleeve for the GC and slide it on the Koni for me? Does the sleeve sit on the c-clip?

I think I might have the wrong ones sent to me. My sleeves slid over the c-clip(don't touch it), I have to put the spring perch for it to catch. Is this normal?

They are Eibach ERS springs integrated with the GC coilover sleeves.
