Sounds like BS to me...
Sounds like this new gasoline "formula" was created by Shell's *marketing* department...

Quote from Shell press release: " Shell Optimax Gold was developed by Shell Canada Products for use under all Canadian driving conditions. With its friction-reducing component, Shell Optimax Gold provides drivers with improved engine response, efficiency and power more quickly. Continued use will further improve engine efficiency. "No other gasoline sold in Canada contains this unique friction reducer," says Blaney, "and its advanced detergent will clean the intake system in your vehicle and help your engine burn fuel more completely." Blaney says that Shell Optimax Gold is an enhancement above properties available in other premium gasolines. "

if it is higher than 92 Octane I am in. Guess they are trying to compete with PetroCanada for gas exclusively for Canadians. blah!

"Friction-reducing component"...maybe they just dumped some plain old engine oil in the gas!

Nope still 91 octane...here's what I got from their site:

Are there any special advantages to using Shell Optimax Gold all the time?

Yes. It is a premium fuel with an octane rating of 91, and it contains a component that reduces friction in the engine more and more as you continue to use Shell Optimax Gold. In addition, the special detergent in Shell Optimax Gold will first clean up and then continue to keep the fuel system in your engine clean.

I get Shell Gas 99% of the time, it's only 91 octane but they have AirMiles and I use the EasyPay (LazyPay) keytag thingy so I don't need cash or my wallet.

it's more like 91-92 with ****ty ass additives ...

really annoying when fuel company raise their prices to 88c /liter and then introduce a "new" sorta gaz thing that'll be 1 cent higher than the rest..

http://www.edmontonjournal.com/news/stories/990923/2899456.html

sorry, you'll have to cut and paste cuz i'm not sure how you hyper-link...

basically the article states the amount of sulphur in the gas...sulphur is bad

Company Sulphur Content(parts per million)
Petro..........280
Esso...........160
Shell...........10

see what i mean...go to Shell, it's worth it, reagrdless if they have the "NEW" premium gas or not...

Hmmm. In the eastern US, Premium gas is always 93 octane. Sunoco gas stations sell a 93 and then a 94 octane too. But the Sunoco 94 octane is like $.10 more/gal than the 93, and it is the exact same grade of fuel. The 93 grade and the 94 grade come from the same refining process and are shipped in the same tanker. The US federal octane ratings system allows Sun to sell the same gas as 2 different grades. I used to work for Sun Refining and Marketing (the parent co. of Sunoco) at their Northeast Refinery complex...
