Hi!

My 2001 came with just 1 master key. I bought an extra master key blank, but the dealer told me that I need a red key to cut and reprogram the new master key. If I don't have it, they will have to replace the entire immobilizer unit ($650).

Is there a way to get around this?

You are better of going to Home Depot and they can make you a programmed key (27R-T5) with your master key [https://www.homedepot.com/p/Axxess-27R-T5-Transponder-Honda-Key-Blank-87492/202297195]. The original Honda key that you purchase from the dealer requires the red key and master key to get it programmed. Better to have an extra aftermarket key that turns on your car in case you lose your only key.
