the whole OBDI vs OBDII thing is totally blown out of proportion IMO. a car that is properly tuned at full throttle / boost and in closed loop crusing will have no issues either way. what is more important is getting the right fuel and timing control system to allow that tuning. the best route is probably a standalone which means OBD nothing-at-all. the intermediate routes (fmu, vafc hack, piggybacks) work just fine on OBD I or OBD II.
