NEED HELP! CEL....Code 22

2601 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  k.alexander
So I am racing this Mustang tonight on the way to dinner with my girlfriend. I am heading up the on ramp, full throttle and I bang into forth gear and I get a Check Engine light!
So I coasted to a stop. The car idled fine, it didnt miss fire and it accelerated normally (wasnt in limp mode). I stopped at a gas station, bought a quart of oil(check the oil and it was just wetting the tip). I noticed that the connctor that goes to i believe the VTEC module or something in that area had seperated (disconnected-near the engine, just underneath the distributor). I put it back on and prayed that the check engine light would go off...nope!
So when I got home, I pulled the access panel on the passenger side and shorted the harness with a paper clip and turn on the key. This is the code(blinks I got)

Blink.....Blink.........2 seconds ................Blink, Blink.

I am assuming this is a code 22. I dont have a helms yet and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the code might be. Also how do I reset the ECU to get rid of the CEL?

I am so pissed, I had that mustang though...got a good jump on him going into the turn...he wouldve had me....damn cant wait for the jrsc!

Please help me with as much knowledge as you guys can! I hope I didnt [email protected] anything up. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Code 22 = VTEC System Malfunction

Open or Short in VTEC Solenoid Valve circuit
VTEC Pressure Switch

Oh yeah, to reset the check engine light, just pull the radio fuse for a few seconds, its the one under the hood, or disconnect the battery for a minute; then see if the light comes back on.

K.Alex,,
You are the man(or woman)! Thanks so much. I am heading to the garage now!
Check the wire. In my case, my wire leading the the VTEC solenoid came off of the connector. I guess it was because my mechanic accidentally knocked it loose while install my clutch. Just check for loose wires before you do what k.alexander said.
I went and looked and it was the wire going to the soleniod area. How do i reset the ecu though with out loosing the the stereo? I have lost my stereo code and I dont have access to the dealer that I bought the car from. Is there a way to reset the ecu with out getting one of those diag tools and pulling the code or by taking the battery off? If I disconnect the battery wont the battery forget the code and ask for me to input it berfore it works? Any helpo would be great! Thanks for all your help so far.
if u disconnect the battery, u will lose the radio code, suprisingly when i pulled the radio fuse for about 5 sec, i didnt loose the radio code, but maybe i should have so be careful. u can get the radio code, by pulling the stereo serial number and calling honda, of course thats a pain in the ass. good luck.
