Do you generally have a mechanic check out a car before buying it. I'm looking at a 96 vtec with 85k, the guy sounds like he took care of the car. Should I have anything on the engine checked like compression, or etc.? Just curious because I usually don't have cars that I'm about to purchase checked, because of the hassle of doing it and asking the seller for permission. Of course I will have them smog it first, other than that I just check with eye's and ears.
