I just got a 1997 satin silver automatic SS Prelude.

I have a bunch of things that I am going to be doing to it over the next few months. Lemme know what you guys think.

Well, here is what is done so far:

- Cheap Xenon headlights from Pep Boys, not white enough though! Look yellowish, etc. The bulb is blue but theyre just not that bright, etc.

- Superwhite interior lights and side marker and parking lights. So that looks good I think.

Here is what I want to do:

1) 35% black tint
2) AEM cold air intake w/ bypass valve
3) OEM bodykit
4) keyless entry/remote start
5) aluminum interior dash kit
6) head unit
7) HID kit?
8) sway bars for suspension?

Please give me some input guys, appreciate it. I do NOT want to lower my car at all. The stock height for the Prelude is damn low if you ask me, dont want to drop it anymore. I am probably going to maybe get sway bars or whatever for suspension, however.

1) Yes, tint on silver look  :bigthumb:
2) Yes, but get it without BPV, and if you are concering about hydro..thing(sp), just get TypeS intake.
3) Yes, def. get them, but it is going to be difficult to find new one, since they are discontinued.
4) Yes, but stay away from OEM alarm and compustar. OEM one is not worth it and compustar is POS, BTW i have Compustar 2WSS. Get clifford or viper.
5) No, IMO OEM CF dash kits are best for Lude's dash. dash stickers look cheap.
6) Yes, However OEM is also good.
7) Yes, try to get ANdo/Luke's projector one, IMO they are best HID kit for 5th gen lude. But their kits are so expensive and hard to get, but i heard they wll do auction for few sets. Other HID kits will give you glare problem. But you dont mind this, just get cheap HID Kit.
8) No, get strut bar, IMO sway bar is useless.

BTW if you have 97, your lude is not Satin Silver. yours are nordic mist. satin silver was only offered in 2001 model. And it seems that you are more concering about "look" than performance. So get 1 and 3 first.

What's the history of the car? Has it had its SS tranny replaced yet? If you are unfamiliar with the problem, do some searches in this forum. You might want to consider saving for a 5spd swap.

I have 88K on my Lude, tranny is fine. Honda just inspected it the other day said it looked perfect.

Anyway, I am much more concerned about the 'look' than anything else. I thought my Prelude was satin silver? The touchup paint I got the guy said was satin silver. F*CK, so that means I am not going to be able to use the Satin Silver bodykit off of HandaAccessories.com.

I dont know why I like the aluminum dash kit, to each is own.

Any other advice? I will go with strut bars eventually.

Wow! A Sway Bar is useless?! Tell that to all the Auto-X folks, and people that actually like to take high speed corners!

Swaybars make a major difference. I'd get the rear bar first though, you'll notice it more than a front bar, and most people don't even like to upgrade the front bar. As for strut bars, I noticed the front bar more than the rear bar. The rear bar was more for peace of mind. You can pick up a Neuspeed front strut tower bar from user cementups for a good price, and the Suspension Techniques rear swaybar is a good bar that won't break your bank.

The cold air intake is nice, but your car will be alot louder both inside and outside of the cabin. I had a bypass valve, but I took it off because it was pretty useless for me. I would only get the bypass valve if you live in an area where it rains alot.

As far as looks, I would go with the tint/body kit first, then maybe a nice set of wheels. HIDs are pricey and they don't change the look of the car as dramatically as a body kit or aftermarket wheels.

You should get the grill that came with the later 5th gen Prelude. Correct me if I'm worng but the 97 lude has the slits, right? I like the one that is on my 2001. Makes a difference.

By the way, rear sway bars make a huge difference, much more than a strut bar. Unfortunately sway bars are fairly expensive and a little harder to install.

First of all, welcome to PO.com. U'll be able to find a WEALTH of useful info here.

1. Tint is good, but be advised that 35% is below the legal limit, and u might have problems w/the police depending on ur location.

2. AEM CAI is one of the best intakes u can get. I agree w/SK that the BPV is useless, as it reduces the volume of air going into the engine. If ur concerned about hydrolock, u can look into an Iceman intake or the AEM SRI.

3. OEM kit is one of the most popular kits on this board. However, it'll be hard to find one now since its no longer in production. U can also look into the Wings West RS kit, a bit more aggressive(lower) than the OEM but u should be fine since u don't plan to lower the car.

4. DO NOT get the OEM POS alarm. U can get a better and cheaper system such as Clifford or Alpine. Hell I think a lojack is about the same price as the OEM alarm.

5. Alum. dash kit. I like it as I have it as well. U can email me for a pic if you'd like. I got it as an inspiration to the BMW M5.

6. The stock one is pretty decent, but of course there's always room for improvement

7. I agree that the retrofit kit made by ANDOKC and Specialique is probably the best. But I personally can't justify spending ~$1k for headlights. I bought a custom kit from www.xenondepot.com instead and it works great. It does have slight glare but nothing blinding or such. Many ppl on the board have this kit as well.

8. Sway-bars will tighten up ur handling. Many ppl(inc. myself) only installed the rear sway-bar since we want to reduce understeer, adding the front pc will negate the rear one. U can get the bars from either suspension techniques or Neuspeed, and most recently Progess. IMHO Progress is for hard-core racers while Neuspeed and ST is about the same. ST is the cheapest btw.

Also, get front and rear STRUT-TOWER BARS, it will help tighten up the chassis some more. U can look into Neuspeed(Front only), Spoon (F+R) and the newest name Cusco. Stay away from DC bars as they're no better than the generic bars on ebay.:nono:

WOW, lots of good info guys, thanks!

Okay I am going to go with 35% tint. Here in Delaware people gey away with everything. My brother has 5% all around except windshield and he has never been stopped!

Okay I guess my car is not satin silver, which SUCKS, so I will probably end up going with the WW racing series kit then. I dont like a really agressive looking kit so that one looks the most modest. I have heard that WW kits are excellent. Do you guys agree?

Two-Five Boy PLEASE e-mail me pics of the aluminum dash kit, appreciate it. [email protected].

I have NO IDEA what youre talking about man! Sorry. What grill? And what slit?

Any other advice guys.

I will skip the bypass valve thanks for the tip.

And for the wheels I LOVE the OEM Prelude wheels, damn. Theyre one of my favorite things about the car.

I was just considering HIDs because I LOVE the look of superwhite headlights. Ill check out www.xenondepot.com, thanks for the link!

Thanks guys!

EDIT: By the way how white are the lights from xenondepot?

Also, I am not sure about suspension yet. Its going to be one of the last things that I do. What is my best bet WITHOUT lowering the car?

And about the keyless entry and remote start, I am not getting that OEM at all. There is a local place called Tweeter that will do both for $239, and they give a lifetime warranty on their products. So that should work out well.

The only decent light bulbs out there are PIAA Extreme Whites and Raybrig Magnum Whites and both cost $100 a pair. Everything else is either dimmer than stock or burns out in a month. I have the PIAAS and they are still going after 6 months. I had (not cheap) Heliolites and they both burned out in a month.

If you are going to spend $100 on bulbs, which you should if you want quality, why not spend more and get real HIDs that won't burn out? You can get HID kits for as little as $399 I think.

Monstar, welcome to PO.com. About the grille thing, the 97-98 grille and maybe the 99 are different from the 00-01 Ludes. The difference is that the newer models come with a honeycomb looking grille, which I wish I had, that has a Prelude emblem on it where as ours (97-98) just has a straight bar that runs across the middle. If you take a look at JoeW's sig in his post above, you will see that his (98) looks like yours. Go to members rides and take a look at some of the newer preludes and try to find a pic with the front grille in it. I think you will like the newer grilles much better, but to all his own. Hope this helps. Later man

The WWRS kit is very good since its made of urethane, NOT fiber glass, which means its very difficult to break:bigthumb:

the color on HID kits vary depending on the output. Stock HID's like Acura, Lexus puts out ~4100k, which in theory is the closest to the color of the sun and hence brightest on the road. The higher # u go the more blue/purple it becomes. I have the 6000k kit and the light is mostly white/slightly blue. IMO anything more than 6000k starts getting too purple for my taste.

Lastly, for suspension I would get the following for the best bang for the buck:

Neuspeed Front STB
Spoon Rear STB, no choice here since nobody else makes them
ST rear anti-sway bar( get the fronts too if u'd like)
Upgrade ur shocks to KYB AGX's. These are 4-way adjustable dampers and offer a much higher level of performance vs. the stock shocks.

Hey man how much did you pay for your HID set from xenondepot.com? Because I definitely want it to be VERY bright and VERY white. So 6000K kit sounds about right for me. A hint of blue is fine with me, nothing wrong with that. I just want the headlights to stand out at night from the rest of the cars, thats all.

I honestly dont want to dump TOO much into my headlights since theyre only seen at night. But I do want them as white as can be. And quality is what I am after. Around $300-400 sounds about right for me if possible. Cheaper the better obviously---cheaper price not cheaper quality.

In terms of the bodykit, Wings West racing series kit sounds about right. Ill have to get it painted and one placed quoted me right around $500 to do it, and I have heard good things about them---so I think thats my best bet.

About the grill, where would I find a new one? Are they hard to change? I dont really notice THAT much of a difference at all. The only thing I like about the new ones is the Prelude emblem up front. Other then that it doesnt matter much to me.

Neuspeed Front STB
Spoon Rear STB, no choice here since nobody else makes them
ST rear anti-sway bar( get the fronts too if u'd like)

Ill do the strut bars eventually. How much would the front and rear strut bars and anti-sway bars cost? Are the front anti-sway bars worth the money? Shocks I am little iffy about at this point. Theyre pretty damn expensive... I dont know yet.
