IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED!! ZEX WORKS JUST FINE! race test story inside! =)

ok, i finally made a final test that would make sure my zex kit was working right. (be warned this thread is quite long)

First Test: single car with passenger.

i did this around midnight on a very very long open two lane road. i scanned the area back and forth a few times with my cobra 9200. now we were ready to start

first i got a freind to sit in the car with me. after my car was warmed up and ready to go, i made a run by myself with the friend in my car. we made two runs hitting vtec, redline and shift... the usual, just to have him get a feeling of how its normally like.

now im going to do the same run again with zex. once again i did not feel much, it was the same type of feeling i got the first time i tested it myself. reved real fast to vtec but didnt feel that much of a pull. but that was what my friend was in there for. after we made two identical runs spraying we stoped and talked it over.

he TOTALLY felt the difference! he said, once i used it at 3000 rpm, he felt that it pulled much harder than normal. he didnt feel much difference when vtec kicked though. but he still felt alittle bit of a crossover. which is still normal since my cross over is eliminated by my vafc practically. basically, kept pulling hard from 3000 rpm to redline.

Second Test: two cars head to head.

my friend drives a civic EX manual with intake and exhaust. now again, im not here trying to race to win. im only here to make sure theres a noticeable difference when using the zex kit to make sure it works. so even though i will pull over the EX, it is irrelevant to my purpose of this race.

so first, we did two runs with no spray. first run i had a decent start, he pulled a bit at the beginning. but i caught up pretty quick and passed him and by 80mph (aggreed stoping point) i was easily at least the whole car length ahead. second run back, same thing happened basically.

now that we had the feeling of what it normally is like, we can use the zex kit. i only got to do this once caus we started hearing people honking and stuff so we were obviously pissing some people off... even though the streets were nearly empty.

so here it is, the one race with my 55 shots spraying that would decide everything:

lined up, count 3,2,1 and we're off! i had a horrible start and he launched about 1 whole car length ahead (my nose at his tail) . i started spraying at 3000 rpm as usual and i pulled up pass him by a little bit the end of first gear. THEN when i went to second, I LITTERALLY TOOK OFF!! im talking about sudden launch here! we were nearly even at end of 1st gear like i said, and when i shifted to 2nd, i passed his entire car length in about 1 second flat (took 1 sec to put his nose on my tail instead). i seriously thought he slammed on the brakes... i mean SLAMED HARD on the brakes. that was what it looked like. and i just kept pulling after that, never stoped. his lights never slowed down in going farther and farther away in my mirror, EVER. we stoped at 90 mpg, 10 over what we planned to stay safe.

but still, IT WORKS! especially in 2nd gear! man u guys gota see how fast i pulled in second!! god i love this kit! no more intimidated by GT stangs and GT-S celicas anymore =)

and to wrap this test all up. I AGAIN DID NOT FEEL IT PULL THAT MUCH IN ALL THE TIMES I HAVE SPRAYED. yet with clearly noticeable differences in results.

so my conclusion: YES the kit works great. pulls like a motha. but for some reason i just cant feel it that much =) must be one of those "being the driver" things.

~that is all.

i would be selective on racing and spraying, that SS wouldn't like it very much.

ZEX BAAAADD! Don't let a crappy made computer control whether your engine explodes or not
It makes me mad that they claim it is safer, but I would much rather have to trust myself before a computer to decide whether my engine blows up or not.

Ng Luder: maybe if you practice you launches.. you'd even get better times...but then again..your car is a SS right?

aren't you spraying malken??

hey ng, pick me up and give me a ride, and i'll help you see if it really works or not.

i have never experienced zex/nos before.

as for zex being bad, i honestly never heard anyone with problems where the computer was at fault for the problem itself. personally i do trust the zex computer and their simple designs. its perfect for a first time user like me.

but still, i would rarely use my zex kit anyways. i only drive on weekends now AND i rarely race in the first place. its for those very "must win" cases

also regarding launches with an SS. i noticed that power braking doesnt exactly give u a better start due to our low trqs. i had a real real good start yesterday by simply pushing the throttle down just a little bit. it just jerks the car foward and from a certain point on after your cars already moving, just floor it and it creates a nice smooth pull right from the start. seriously its MUCH better than the bog u get form power braking.

malken, what nitrous kit are you running? NOS??
