so supposedly i need a new steering rack and pinion, which the mechanic told me he could get me one for 300 guessing a new one , but i found this one on ebay and was wondering if it looks like a bad idea to purchase?

Did he tell you what was wrong with it? If there's too much play it can be adjusted

IMHO, it would probably be best to just fork over the money for a rebuilt one than taking the risk of buying a used one with an unknown number of miles on it that may have issues
