Today saw Honda's first F1 podium in their third era of competition. In an action packed race filled with collisions, engine/structural failures, and pit lane drama, BAR-Honda took third place.

With Indy 500 winner Jacques Villeneuve at the helm, the BAR 003 with the Honda RA001E Engine took their first podium!

FORZA HONDA!

EXCELLENT RACE!

Before this thread gets locked....

It is very important for BAR to be ahead of Jordan this year. With Toyota coming in next year, Honda apparently will make a decision of which of the two teams it will sponsor next year - and supply engines only to one, to concentrate on winning and on beating Toyota.

Well done Jacques - he has been someone I've been watching since Indy Lights and Formula 3 in Japan. I watched his father race - that's how I got into F1 when I was a kid. Now that Honda's back... they'll want to dominate, with Villeneuve to lead them on the track.

Here are two links to relevant stories. Go Jacques & Olivier! Too bad Panis wasn't one place up, and got a point... *sigh*

Article at Formula1.com.

Article at Atlasf1.com, the best F1 site on the net IMO.

why would this get locked? Where is it going to go...the "OT" board?
Like 80% of them know anything about cars/racing let alone go in there for it..

BAR does need to be ahead of jordan..last year was a biiiig disappointment for BAR.

'Cause it's not Prelude specific. Watch, it will be locked and we'll be told to move it to the off-topic section of this board.

Yes, a big disappointment. Jacques nearly signed for Benetton, after all...

Not really - their driver line-up won't be the greatest. Don't get me wrong, I like Mika Salo, but he isn't going to win anything for Toyota for a while.

Also, don't forget that the FIA changed the rules mid-stride on Toyota. They were developing a V12 to come in for the 2001 season, and the FIA changed the rules so that only V10s can do it. They lost an entire production year and had to start from scratch.

Also, Toyota's at a huge disadvantage having never been in F1 before, and also developing the car from the ground up. They have to do Chassis and]/b] engine - at least BAR had Reynard on board.

JACQUES! JACQUES! JACQUES! JACQUES!

Possibly the last, best hope for any excitement from F1.

I hate FIA - they're possibly the dumbest organization after the IOC.

That's great for Bar...It's about time that they piece together a good engine..

I knew that two Prelude engines tied together would work in F1.

Actually it's V10 that they use.

I was in stitches when the Mercades lump gave up the ghost on the last lap!
Most of my mates work for Ilmor up the road in Brixworth, so I support Ferrari!
Really winds them up, so I thought it best to keep a low profile today! Hehehe!

Hehehe... Mika would be fined if that happened on any lap but the last...

There he is, spraying the whole track with oil, but he's still grabbing another gear! On the last lap you can get away with nearly anything...

hahaha is that the South African english/afrikaaner spelling of before?

boy...that was a good race...Jacques was pushing Montoya all the way to the end...but then...if you noticed...with about 7-9 laps left...Jacques seemed to back off a little...he probably heard on the radio that Michael was having trouble up in 2nd place...little could he know that on the last lap, mika's engine would die

LOL wow what a race

It's kinda funny...there's this website (I'll grab it here in a sec) that follows Jacques' season closely...and for the title of the story about the podium it reads: "Give me that ****ing trophy!!!!"

http://www.jacques.villeneuve.com/express/

LOL!
