I have a split in my steering rack boot. Well, the boot is completely separated.

It has been this way for awhile it seems.

What is the proper way to clean the exposed rack? When replacing boot, what lubricant, if any, should be used?

clean it in a parts washer is the best way if you have access... and when you buy a new boot the lubricant should come with it ..
