well you need to take more than just the head, you also need everything that the timing belt touches since theres different amounts of teeth on the two motors belts. i dont know much about this but you might need different pistons as well, the h23a1 has a good deal lower compression than the h22a as most non-vtec motors do. because of all this i doubt you can use either ecu and it run properly but i may just not know what im talking about. you should do a search on the honda-tech forums since i believe theres a couple of write ups on how its done. from what ive heard though its cheaper to buy the cb7 accord type r motor which is the h23a (not h23a1) and is a 2.3L 200 hp vtec motor with a blue top with the same mid range torque as the usdm h23a1. i just had trouble finding the ecu for that motor, most sites list only the motor by itself, the car also had unique gearing for its transmission, it had a taller than usual 4th gear.
