i'm wiring in guages (voltmeter, tach) and i realize that the instructions make a difference between a "good ground" and a "good engine ground". what do each of these terms mean, and why is this difference there?
i suppose a good ground would be a ground that is connected to the body panels/framing of the car, like where someone would ground an amp for a subwoofer etc. Good engine ground would be a ground on the engine block itself, there are some electrical connections that use the engine block as a ground.
now that i think about it... it may be incorrect, but i've been using my negative battery terminal as the ground for my shift light. It's worked just fine for a year now. Although it may be using the ignition as ground... i'll have to look into that.
