getting i/h/e. what can i expect?

1743 Views 20 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  ThatPreludeGuy
i am getting an aem cai, dc ss header, and greddy evo for 2000 base lude.

what can i expect in terms of hp gains: peak and throughout the powerband?

i know this is not the best setup but that's all the wallet can shell out.

also if i'm afraid of rust what should i buy to paint over my header flanges and exhaust pipes?

thanks!

maybe 7~10 horses, but not all at the peak. your peak may rise a bit, but most of the difference will be below it. just a guess though...

you can now rape mustang GTs instead of just beating them

assuming you have a 5 spd and you're good hehe

Whatever.
The AEM by itself might give you that.
More like 12-15hp at the wheels.

i put my i/h/e one by one. Intake first, then exhaust and finally the headers today. Intake gave little to no gain but a cool sound
The exhaust gave my ass dyno a little push and the headers completed the i/h/e deal and it pulls a lot harder than when i only had the aem cai. Do it this way if you are doing the installs urself and if you have the ability to wait
...it was totally fun to see how each mod added/changed the car

Yeah, man, I don't know what year GTs you've been racing but my buddy make me cry every time we line up to race in his '00 GT. That things got some f-ing balls. I did lay the smack down on a '90 or so GT though on the highway. The older ones are a different story all together.

You got a dyno to prove this? I think the most power you would ever get to the wheels from I/H/E would be 10...15-20 at the crank.

btw, with I/H/E your low-end power will decrease a bit, but your mid to high end will make up for that.

I feel like I'm always barking this but I hit between 170-172hp at the wheels from header/intake and pulleys. Even if my car hit 160 stock which would be a stretch for a SH that would still be a 12hp imporvement. I'd venture to say that swapping pulleys for the exhaust would do a little better.
what kind of pullies are you running?

do you think gteching it before and after for HP rating will be accurate? i guess i will test it out with my gtech.

but i assume most of you do notice a real difference in the extra 10+ hp gain, not just 'think' you feel a difference.

First, how does [email protected] turn into 20bhp???
50% power loss is not possible ona Prelude. However I do agree with that 20 flywheel hp, because that whould give you about 15whp.
As far as dyno's go, try hondaprelude.com or ntpog.org. Off the top of my head I remember a DC DAC+DC header+tanabe exhaust combo that made about 13whp over stock in some rag, and that's with that DC DAC which makes probably 3-5hp less than an AEM CAI.

Yeah and this is based on the fact that he got stickers that add 50 hp right?
Save your money man and work with traction, Buy an LSD,groupbuy has them on sale now $850, You can get a good shop to install it, And Then get an Exhaust, you could get the LSD ,exhaust for about the same as I/H/E.
You will have great traction, and alittle more power.
yeah, i'm looking for an lsd.. and my exhaust is pissing me off... i reinstalled my stock exhaust but my friend lost a bolt, so exhaust is flapping one of the gasket around, makes my car sound like a bike with a playing card scraping against the rear wheel (remember when we used to do that as kids?).
