for those who read my previous thread about my SS, here's what's new....

Well I'm about to turn into the dark side of stick driving....I was disappointed with my sport shift prelude that it only made the best 1/4mile run of 15.8, so I was thinking to give up on autos and become "one of them"

I was looking around for a 5spd prelude, and here it is.....I found this 5spd prelude, same colour and year as my sport shift(FBP 97), but it has 105000km and mine is 97000km. The dealer wants 700 canadian from me for the trade, or give them another 300 canadian to put my aftermarket parts onto my new ride....and it's kinda out of my budget, so I'm thinking to sell my mods to get 700 canadianbut i don't want to give up my koni sports shocks and hr sports spring.

Well......I need some opinions for this deal. I have the following parts: 5zigen fireball axle back exhaust, hr sports spring, koni sports adjustables, toyo fz4 tires, value sport front lip and a underhood intake. I would like to keep my koni sports but the other parts will probably just give me 400 canadian, so i have to starve for a month to pay 300 outta my living money.....do you guys think it's worth it? Pay 700 for a manual car with higher mileage and give up those parts? I feel kinda bad for doing this, it makes me feel that I betrayed some SS faiths or something.....plz give me advice....both car with no accidents.

you have high quality parts there.. keep your parts, buy the 5spd and starve.
hey hey, yeah starve for a month and get the stick, best mod you can do for a SS. I only wish I can do it. Keep all your mods too if you can, would suck to start all over.
heh. yeah.

i traded my SS lude in for a 5speed. i left my AEM intake and aem pulleys on...

i'd have to pay for
1. labour to take the aem mods off my SS lude
2. labour to take the stock parts off the new 5sp lude
3. labour to install the aem mods into the new lude
4. labour to install the stock parts into the SS lude

i'm not much of a mechanic so there was no way i'd do this on my own.

so i crunched the $$numbers and i felt it was worth taking a loss and just leaving the mods on the car.

do you guys think 700 is a fair price though? I thought autos are more valuable than 5spd but then the dealer wants me to pay 700cdn to get a 5spd with higher mileage it just doesn't sound right...... I don't know much about those buy/sell stuffs but i always thought autos are easier to sell and more valuable?? I'm trying to get the dealer to knock off a couple hundred off....do you guys think i should make it?
Willam: Sorry little off topic here... but were did you get your Value Sport lip? I been trying to find someplace to buy something from them FOREVER.
luder-xhpx: sorry can't help you on this one, i bought it used from a friend.

Sound wrong to me. An auto cost more and you have less miles. Unless they have an added reduction in the value books for the auto because it in not as durable, but I have never heard of it working this way. They should be giving you 700 or swap your mods for free.

Thank you. I was wondering if anyone would notice that. I agree. Yours is worth more than theirs. I say even swap, you pay labor to save the mods.

What the dealer is saying is, autos value more if you're buying a new car, but 5spd value more for used cars because a lot of people are buying used 5spd because they're tired of autos like me. After thinking about this deal more thoroughly I think it's just not worth it to pay for a worse car, I'm gonna try private sale my car then look for a 5spd......that should be the best way to do it. Thanks for all the help

guys, we have to remember that they're Preludes we're talking about. if anything, the 5speed has the higher value in my book. the dealer knows that, so he's trying to get his way.

anyway, haggle with him... it should be an even trade since the 5speed has higher mileage.

oh yea, WELCOME TO THE DARKSIDE! the grass is greener, dammit!! hahahahaah i amuse myself.

The other side of that is 5-spd owners are more likely to mistreat their cars and run them harder. The dealer MUST offer you less than your car is worth, so he can sell it to someone else at the same price you are about to...

You're doing the right thing. Sell it yourself and get a '99. Good luck!
Talk him down William. Autos (whether they are used/trade-in or not) always cost more. Usually a couple G's more. Atleast thats how the new civics are.

I talked my sales guy down about $1,000 on my car, then my dad came in and talked him down even more. Just act like your going to walk out and you dont want the car then watch his reaction, he will drop the price in a second.
My company carry the Value Sport kit, e-mail me if you need a hook up.

Glanced at an Edmunds used car values, Spring 2001 edition. For a 2000 Prelude, it said add $815 (US$) for auto. I'm sure that Kelley Blue Book (which is what dealers want to quote to you) would also assign value to the auto.
You should expect the mods on your car to lower it's value, I'd guess maybe $1000US.
