I noticed a decent size dent in the front of my oil pan while checking out my filter from under the car.

Could this give me an incorrect oil reading on the dipstick?

Cause I recently did an oil change (month or so ago) and only put in 5 quarts of oil and I thought the h23 is more like 5.5-5.7 quarts.

Yes it will.

Think about it - you have less volume in your oil pan, therefore you can hold less oil. You might think you have more oil than you really do. On my new jdm, vtec wouldn't initially work because my oil pan was dented. Dr. Charles at atomic replaced the oil pan and vtec engaged.
