Are my tires a little "big"?

I have Falken 225/50/15's on stock wheels. These are what came on the car as I bought it used.

I don't see as many Luder's with tires this wide. Do these hurt my straight line performance, heavier?

Yes, but then it should handle a bit better as well. Your speedo will be off a bit as well.
well... falken ze-502s in 225/50r15 weigh 23 pounds and have an o.d. of 23.9"

i believe re-92s were stock on the 4th gen too, which weigh 20lbs in 205/55r15 and have an o.d. of 24.1"

so yeah, you're 3 pounds heavier than stock per wheel. some will claim that every pound of rotating unsprung mass is worth about 7 pounds of regular weight... maybe you're about a tenth of a second slow on those tires, but i doubt it's even that much. the handling benefits probably outweight the small loss of oooomph.
well....on the topic of tire sizes on stock rims, anybody know if those 225 series tires will fit on a 5th gen base preludes? I'd really like to fit some autox tires w/o spending any more money on freakin rims.....

So why doesn't everyone get wider tires like 225 if they help handling? Do they cost more than thinner 205's? And 5Gen_Prelude, am I running a larger than stock diameter by having 50 height? What is stock, 45?

umm, read much lately?

those falken 225/50/15s are 23.9" in diameter. the stock bridgestones are 24.1"

your tires are slightly smaller in diameter than the stock tires, but it's a very small amount - .8%

the reason you don't see that many 225s is that a) people are concerned about rubbing, and b) most people who buy fancy tires have fancy rims, which are usually more like 17" than 15", and it's pretty hard to find the proper o.d. tire in 225 for a 17" rim.

Yeah I do, but never about tires, hasn't been a concern yet, I haven't had this car even a year yet, smartass

i was mocking you because the question you asked was one i ALREADY ANSWERED, dumbass. or does only having a prelude for a year mean that you shouldn't be expected to know that 23.9 isn't a "larger" diameter than 24.1?

it's bad enough when people ask questions that have been answered a zillion times (not that yours has; although it probably has), but please, the question was already answered in the same thread you started!!!
