K series swap is pretty popular in the Honda community, yes. It's an excellent engine.
It's a bit rare in this platform as it is not particularly plug and play compatible and not a lot of people have done it (from what I have been able to find so far, I think this is the third or fourth time it is being done).
Also, the K24 is more of a future proofing aspect for this build at this time. The bigger headlines are probably the full cage and one off JRZ RS Pro coil overs.
If you click the link in the first post you can see progress. At this point the wrap is complete.
Engine and everything else need to go back in, one off suspension needs to be swapped for dampers with a shorter body length.
