Merry Christmas PO!

Question: Can 215/55/16's fit on a 5 Gen with base OEM rims (lowered on Tein S Tech springs) without having to roll fenders or play with my camber settings?

According to this tire calculator Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing, the overall dimensions do not seem to be that much off. As is, it seems as if I have about 20-15mm width-wise and about 1.5-2" in height to play with.

Stock Tire - 205/50R16| Tire 1 - 215/55R16
Section Width:8.07 in 205 mm |Section Width: 8.46 in 215 mm
Rim Diameter: 16 in 406.4 mm | Rim Diameter: 16 in 406.4 mm
Rim Width Range: 5.5 - 7.5 in |Rim Width Range: 6 - 7.5 in
Overall Diameter: 24.07 in 611.37 mm | Overall Diameter: 25.31 in 642.87 mm
Sidewall Height: 4.03 in 102.36 mm | Sidewall Height: 4.65 in 118.11 mm
Radius: 12.03 in 305.56 mm | Radius: 12.65 in 321.31 mm

However, I'm not familiar at all with the tolerances on a Prelude and not sure how these numbers would translate from the screen to the real world.

My tires are almost due to be replaced so I've been searching (mostly on http://www.preludeonline.com/f84/recommended-tire-sizes-offsets-107797/) and have not found this size (215/55/16) anywhere on this site. I see that 215/50/16s fit, and have read that 215/60's are just ridiculous. Has anyone ran these tires on a lowered 5g? Has anyone ran these tires AT ALL?

Thanks in advance.

JA

Why would you go with a higher side wall on a lowered car? Winter tire? Stock is 50 anything over that is over board in my opinion. If your worried about rim protection make sure you get the right tire as they all use different specs and some are stiffer than others. My old optimos were crap for side wall, felt like the tire was rolling under the rim in corners or extended curves. These Yokohamas I got last week are way better.

Thanks for your response.

Well, I have many reasons for being interested in this size tire, some you have already mentioned. Among them are that because they are an 'odd' size, they are pretty inexpensive. Additionally, I would like a wider track and taller sidewall, in general.

I'm not sure about any particular brands as of yet. Just checking to see if this size, in general, would be compliant with my current set up. However, I am interested in some Dunlop Direzza DZ101's in this size.

And to be perfectly candid, i want to close the 1/2 inch wheel gap left by my Teins. And avoid the curb at mid-face level. Also, I think it would make for a better ride all around. I don't auto-x, I don't race, and I don't drift. I just drive for fun and within my means and budget.

Merry Christmas.

I just posted on dallgire's "She is here" post about these tires.
As I said in that post, the kid that had the car before me had two different sizes on it... as you said in the original post here, the 60's look ridiculous. Way too big. They rubbed on everything and felt really sloppy.

I went out looking for some good used tires (on a budget), and could not find ANY in the stock size of 205/50/16. Most shops were inundated with the 215/55/16's... I found a full set of winter tires with 75% tread and they fit great on the stock rims on my car.
Good ride on the road, not rubbing when encountering bumps, but when steering sharply they DO rub a little in the wheel well against the engine compartment.

Mine has the adjustable coil overs in front, and I believe it has a 1.5 or 2 inch drop in the rear. Got it that way, so I am not completely sure as to the drop in the rear. I can take a pic tomorrow if I get the exhaust back on before it gets dark.

thanks a bunch! i would really appreciate pix! the wheelworks near me has a buy 3 get the 4th free on 215/50/16's (Falken FALKEN ZIEX 912) so i'm kind of torn now. i'm not dropped as low as you are but would rather not rub at all. just wanna maximize the meat (height and width) on these wheels without compromising the car.

Hey Guys,

I went to my local Wheelworks today and picked up my new tires. I also got an alignment--I was negative 36 on my right front. They had a sale, buy 3 get 1 free on Falken 912's. I got 215/55/16's. Spent about $500 on everything!

I think tires are the most UNDER-RATED MODs in the world! I hate using terms like "night and day" but, really these tires are great! I had BF Goodrichs on prior to this in our stock size. After driving around for a couple of hours, the extra beef is really remarkable! Not only does the car accelerate and turn better, but it also brakes better and is much smoother. Again, it's not "night and day" but, it really is the BEST thing I've done to this car by far. For the record, I don't auto-x or drag race. I drive spirited. So, I'm not saying these are great racing tires or even ultra-high performance tires. Only that these make my car ride, accelerate, and brake so much better than before!

I read a lot about different mods and really, I think tires should get a lot more credit!

They also made my wheel gap basically non-existent! The tires don't rub at all! In fact, I'm thinking of adding 10-15mm spacers! They even make the itty-bitty 16's look like they actually "fit" the car now! :)

I've attached pics below!

I have 215/55/16's on my prelude now and it's lowered about 1.5 inch's with 25mm spacers.

It just snowed here in upstate NY so I had to toss the stock wheels with those tires on and I rub here and there. You would be fine with 10-15mm spacers.
