Vtec problem, need help!

I just took my turbo off and now I'm back to NA but the problem is that my car will drive all the way up to Vtec then jerk at about 5500 and then keep going but not in vtec. Now a friend of mine while he was drunk one night messed with it and I intialized it. Could the initialize have done something or do I need a new vtec soleniod and how much do they cost??

initialize means for the vafc, to reset to default settings in which it came
