So I just finished my custom exhaust composed of a megan racing header, 2 magnaflow mufflers and 2.5" SS exhaust tubing all the way back. I also threw on a CAI. Now this is just going to be a DD, my RX7 and GSXR are my fast toys but I still plan on doing a few more things to the lude. I am going to throw on the UR SS pulley set and prolly some crower cams. Also I am going to be doing a direct port nitrous setup and here is where my question comes in.
I was reading multiple thread debates about how the VAFC is only effective during WOT. Also what is the difference between the VAFC 2 and the VAFC NEO? Also I plan on doing this setup right here for my ignition: NTPOG 5th Gen Ignition Installation
So would the VAFC coupled with the MDS-6AL be effective for running a car with bolt ons and a direct port nitrous setup. I am asking because I will most likely be running a 75-100 shot and will definately need to retard the timing. One last thing, does the MSD-6AL have the capability to retard the timing when the nitrous is activated? This could be done through a NC relay but I don't know if the MSD-6AL can retard the timing.
I would say it's a tough call on the VAFC/MSD combo. I would suggest that you could get a much better Greddy eManage setup for virtually the same money. If you can find one used, that would be a better idea.
naw man, NEOs are awesome, they add alot more features over the vafcII, check out pp.com tuning for some ppl reporting 20whp on stock engines with even an automatic tranny with the Neo.
the Neo was basically the answer to greddy's emanage blue box, then greddy went all out to compete with AEM and made the emanage black box ultimate with just overkill of features for your setup.
you'll be fine with the MSD setup, but I would suggest using the just the 6a box, ss coil, 83838 or something like that model cap n distrib, it lists as civic, but thats cuse their test idiot had an h22 in his civic but on the tech forums you'll see it works on the h22, and hell it works on mine.
Now if you are serious on the 100 shot....good heavens.... definitely get the emanage ultimate or use a standalone
Yea, I understand a Standalone would be the best (I have a $1200 setup in my RX7), but again I don't want to drop alot of money on one if I can get away with controlling the fuel via the VAFC and the timing via the MSD ignition box. Any other opinions?

I think you can find a used gen 1 eManage for around $250. I think a VAFC+MSD would cost at least that much.
I'll throw in a thought. Why not just use adjustable cam gears rather than buy a MSD setup? The stock system is pretty powerful, so just get the correct plugs and adjust timing.
On every question of construction, let us carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or invented against it, conform to the probable one in which it was passed.

Because I don't want to run the car around with the timing retarded 2-3 degrees all the time. Just when the nitrous system is engaged/powered up.
