trying to make some power

as some of you that has bought parts from me know that i have a 2000 base 5 speed that is a race car. i am seriously considering a head and cam package from gude.com i have spoken with mr. bill gude several times on this and he offers a package where you send him your head, cam, throttle body and intake. also to make the package go you have to go to a p28 obd1 with a piggyback harness so he can put a custom tune in it and moving the rev limiter to 8800. any more than 8800 he says the oil pump is the weak leak in the stock motor. so mr. bill gude takes your parts and reworks them. port and polishes the head and intake and throttle body. regrinds the stock cams to whatever application you are going to be using the car for. in my case it will be circle track dirt. on the head he mils the crap out of it for more compression and does some special valve grind. so my question is he is claming 40 horsepower over stock to the tires. what do you guys think? I do have access to wheel pull dyno and can dyno before and after but before i spend the good money he is wanting i am kind of curious to if yall think 40 hp is reasonable. thanks in advance.

40hp is not unreasonable for an entire head setup.
BUT, I would not go with gude.
Go with a better company the that like portflow, RLZ, or CCcylinderheads.
Steve has done a lot of really great work lately.
As for the cam, go with a skunk2 pro1.
Milling the head is a bad idea for compression. Go with some type s pistons and flat faced valves to get you compression. If Gude is telling you to mill the head for more compression then I wouldn't even consider going to him.
He also says that he will change the rev limiter to 8800 which is another bad idea from him because 99.9% of H22's don't make power that high.

GUDE has been in the game for a really long time, just about as long as anyone in the Honda performance industry from what I remember. So I wouldn't totally write him off, but they have been very quiet in the industry in relation to the H-series powerplant. I would maybe ask him if he has an H-series customers you can call to ask about how happy they are with what he provided. Also ask if he can send you any proof of results from his H-series work.

If that is too much work or if you can't get any solid proof of results, then stick to proven companies for the H-series. GroundZero112 made some good recommendations for sure.

yea i spoke with bill gude several times and he has 30 plus years of experience. he also gave me a few phone numbers of people who have some h22 and h23 head package. both guys i talked to said they got what they were promised and were extremly happy with the power increase.
