Thoughts: Swapped out LSD tranny and put in H23 Tranny on H22a

Ok I had (actually still have, just not installed on the h22a anymore) the JDM LSD M2B4 tranny on my JDM H22a. They went together quite nicely .

But I swapped out the lsd tranny and put my h23 tranny back on, and I was expecting a big drop in performance, especially dropping out of vtec like ppl on the board have said in the past.

Well here are my thoughts.

Launches: I can still launch the car pretty good. LSD is better still, but its LSD so of course it going to be better

Vtec: I stay in Vtec fine throughout all the gears even with my Vtec set at 5700rpm, I shift at 8k though. If I granny shift I will fall out of Vtec but, DrRrrr... like yah, of course you'll fall out of Vtec when you granny shift!

Turns: LSD > H23 tranny (not really a fair h22a vs h23 tranny comparsion though, just thought I would input)

Acceleration: This is one of the noticable things about the h23a tranny. The gears are longer and the 1-2 accelerating is not as fast as an h22a tranny. Not really that bad either. The setup I have currenty isnt as good for daily driving because I have all my runners open all the time =\ If it was on an h22a or h23a with the runners functioning normally, it would be a good daily driving tranny, good lowend. BUT on the flip side, when im in 3-4 gear, it stays in the powerband longer , it just takes a lil longer to get there.

Guess thats it. I will have to update when I can think of or come across any other differences. Overall, it really wasn't that bad of a downgrade. I would of course prefer to have the LSD tranny because it was made for the h22a. I can do burn-outs easier now though

Feel free to post any questions or comments.

What are you going to do with the M2B4?

I am currently running the H22A H23 tranny setup in mine. I don't have the balls to shift at 8000 though so I fall out of VTEC every time on the 1-2. I agree with the longer powerband though. It is nice to spend that much longer in VTEC.

Yeah, I need to try it. I just worry about spinin' her up that high. Plus, with the taller gearing you get going fast really quick. There aren't many places near me where I can do a dead stop pull all the way up to 100+, not to mention that damned speed governer

Oh well

I plan on eventually getting another lude in the future and going for a n/a build-up, so Im going to put the lsd tranny on the project lude. I figured I might as well get used to the h23 tranny, and I also wanted to see the difference out of curiousity.

I thought that the h23 tranny was going to fall out of vtec so bad, I went ahead and ordered another chipped ecu with a lowered vtec setting. Doh! I don't think I need it now but its already ordered and on it's way. I guess its ok though...

And yes, the gearing is good for races from a roll because you can downshift right into Vtec and stay there longer .

hmm, i shift mine at 8500 sometimes and its still running strong. I wouldnt be scared to shift at 8k.

I really gota get my car on the dyno. I feel like im in Initial D when he first gets the new engine. It is just pulling SOOO hard at 8k i dont wana stop. haha

I have trouble with that 1-2 shift. On the street its not bad but at tha track its alot trickier. If your having trouble hooking up that 1-2 shift is a biach.

I don't get why your secondaries are open all the time.

p28 ecu.

No secondary runners.

Sux

Been thinking about getting that MSD switch though to activate it though. My friends 5th gen, with stock ecu feels so much better on the low-end, I think it may be worth it for the low-end peformance but that may have to wait until the next lude.
