stock h22 valves reliability

I am in the process of upgrading my valvetrain for my build and I was wondering whether or not to replace the valves. I am going to be running some skunk2 pro stage 2 cams, I have skunk2 retainers and springs already. My mechanic says that the stock valves are stainless steel and are very strong and that there might no be any need to replace them (He is still going to inspect them before installation). I have seen some builds on here that don't mention having aftermarket valves.

I've searched and I know that you can keep the stock valves and be okay, just trying to see if they are any valve failure stories out there.

what shop is this saying that to you? Replace them especially if you intend to rev higher more often, you have miles used on those so they will be the bottleneck in your head, you intend to replace the other parts of the valceteain but not the valves-- that makes no sense to me.

Well kind of at the end of my budget. Cost of new valves is 250. The head was worked on by the previous owner, its has new valve seats and a mild p&p. My mechanic is just trying to keep the build under budget and thats why he said that I would be okay in reusing the valves, but if yall believe that its really going to be a hindrance Ill try to see about getting some new ones. Like i said before though I have seen a lot of builds that just keep the old ones.

H22 valves are pretty good. One of the only few reasons for it to fail is if its damaged in some sort of way. Other than that make sure its clean and has minimal wear, replace the valve springs and retainers and get some new keepers so you can save some weight.

Stock valves are good, just make sure yours are perfectly straight and not bent at all. I am using stock valves on my new engine, but had to replace 4 or 5 exhaust valves IIRC, they were slightly bent.

my stock valves have seen many many miles of 8500 RPM abuse between the stock motor and the old h23vtec. The only advantage to the aftermarket valve is weight.

Thanks for the info guys. Keeping the stock valves. Just finished purchasing all the parts, build should be starting in these next few weeks. I'll start a thread when the build is finished.
