Replacing valve seals

I need to replace my valve seals. I'm burning incredibly too much oil, and it isn't the rings cuz my compression comes up perfectly fine.

Am i going to hafta pull the head to get the valve seals?

The way it looks in the helms, if i keep the valve from fallin in the cyclender, i should be able to pull them off.

Just wondering if any one knew before i did something stupid.

Perhaps you could try and do a leakdown test to be certain it is your seals before you continue.

Good luck, and let us know what you find. Oil burning is an issue that many of us struggle with.

A leakdown won't tell you if it's the seals. Compression test is "fine," what does that mean? Anything less than 220 or more than a 5psi difference in cylinders and I wouldn't rule out the rings.

Valve seal leakage is usually manifested as oil consumption during high vacuum- lift throttle on decelleration, etc.

Valve seals are normally easy to replace, but nothing is easy in an H22. I don't think it would be possible to replace the valve seals in an H22 with the head on the block, I haven't seen a tool yet that will get in there to remove the valve springs with the head on. Not sure if Honda makes something to do it or not. You might be able to fabricate something, but it would be a LOT easier to just remove the head.

Also, valve seals on Hondas are usually good for 10 years or 150k miles.

In the 93 Helm it says you can replace the valve seal on the H23 with the head still on but it doesn't show anyway for doing this on the H22 but maybe it could still work...
