Yeah, usually that's done when there is excessive wear and there is a need to use oversized bearings, not just because they are cheaper. If your rod journals are not out of spec for size/clearance, then you may not be able to use them.

Something is worn out of spec---->you machine them to the next closest available spec--->get oversized parts or bearings to help compensate for the spec that has been modified.

Get it?

However, I am no professional, so I may be getting something wrong here.

actually they are .001 oversized oil clearance. so the bearings are actually .001 smalller to allow some oil to lubricate the bearing some more. they are the same price as standard. My logic was since your making the bearing smaller you have to be sacrificing something, but not to sure.

you can use heavier oils? thats really the only advantage i see and i dont see that as an advantage. only other thing i can see is that it would wear out your stuff faster because typically an engine starts to knock when the clearance gets greater and greater. dude use oem honda for parts you cant really modify. honda makes good stuff. just look at your ca

The idea is that you achieve less friction in the motor by setting looser clearances. A higher volume oil pump may accompany this modification to ensure adequate flow. Naturally, as it is for racing appliations, it won't last as long, but .001" is not a lot looser either. Keep in mind that a lot of racing engine builders set their motors to facory clearance.
