I'm planning on running prelude type s cams in my 01 lude. My question is: What valvesprings/retainers should I use? At first I thought about skunk2 or crower. Then I read that you should use the valvesprings meant for the cams or the harmonics could wreck the valvetrain. I know inlinefour.com sells Prelude Type S valvesprings, i'm thinking that would be the ideal. Could I just use my stock retainers, i'm not planning on revving it past 8k. My racing shifts are all at 7500-7600.
I know a lot of you guys out there think that the type s cams arn't worth it. I'm going this route for 2 reasons. 1. I don't want to deal w/cam breakage i've seen to much **** w/crower and skunk two. 2. I want to keep it as oem as possible.

P.S. i'm planning on the type s pistons as well.
wish I had the loot to put in Type S pistons...I need them bad my rings are going....I haven';t heard that much of Skunk 2 cams breaking at all, thats why I got them..i love the gains also..keep in mind Skunk 2 grids their cams from OEM cam blanks! with 11:1 compression ohhhhh nice and a good set of cams your set..
I would stick with the same brand valvetrain and cams....

y mod if u want to keep it OEM spec? just drop a whole type S clip in there then sell ur current motor... LSD,cams, pistons, euro r manfold... after said n done in the long run you prolly still make out better then payin staight labor...if current motor is semi low mileage n in good cond. might as well swap it out n sell it n get some $$ back...

haven't experienced the full range yet cause I;m only revving to stock fuel cut, 7650. but they want to pull, VTEC is way louder and stronger, only after me tuning with VAFC and wideband.....saving for Hondata s200 w/p72 then will be able to open them to 8500. sux cause now my car won't start today...LOL!! need to figure that out first

don't make the same mistake i did nuke79 there are 2 different types of conversion harnesses. Obd2a and obd2b make sure you get the right one. www.hondata.com has a great wizard that shows you.
There are type s valve springs on sale on ebay right now.
"Up for sale is a set of Prelude Type S intake valve springs. These springs are lightly used and come from a 2001 Honda Prelude Type S from Japan. They still have the yellow paint on them from the factory. You can tell these are Type S because of the square shaped material used to make the outer valve spring. This set contains both inner and outer springs, but there is one inner spring missing. I don't know where it is. You can use your OEM Prelude inner springs with these outer springs. I checked the spring pressure on a machine and its the same for both the Type S and OEM inner springs. Please check out my other items as I have LOTS of other H series and F series Honda parts for sale. I have the Type S Exhaust springs on another auction."
Does anyone know if this is true...that the type s inner spring and the usdm inner spring have the same pressure?
OBD2a, thanks precisionelite, I'm not going to be revving that high all the time just want to know I can, and stay in the higher powerband when shifting when needed. When I put type S pistons in down the road I'll go with lightened rods just to make sure everything is cossy, and most def not without tuning..but I guess I'll know what my cams can really do in the upper range when I get to the dyno after my header gets here...(hopefully will be able to get engine management by then or nothing past 7650
