The next step in the HELMS is to replace the ECU if it isn't working correctly. Does the tuner you use have some p28s laying around for you to test with?

got to the shop. Long story short, there was a short in the OBDII to OBDI wiring harness. It was repaired code cleared at my ECU is good. problem half solvedf., During the tunning session the chort fried the tuners computer and some of his equipment. So no tunning. Intresting note the headers were glowing RED HOT after only 1 pull. he says this is in indication of a clogged CAT or poor timing table. I'm convinced it is a poor timing table from the previous tune as I just checked the cat and ran the car oipen header with no power gain.

Currently haggling with them because they want to do all this work checking timing anbd CAT before redoing the timing table. I've already done this stuff and they dnt wanna hear it and I dnt want to pay for checks twice.

spent all day at the shop.

leak down test was good.
mechanical timing was good like I said it was.
ran open header once to eliminte the idea tht the CAT is clogged, it was fine.

On the dyno it made 138HP, no power in VTEC, power just drops off. Also the dyno plot looks like and EKG on a heart patient. it is jagged a sign of ignition problem. Tuner couldnt figure out why it makes no power. he is convinced something is pulling timing. He says I should try a new distributor even though I just got this one. also told me to check the ignition coil, thats the only ignition part I havent replaced. I have replaced distributor, wires(NGK), cap, rotor, and plugs. so I'm going to get the multimeter out and test each wire and the coil. We are all stumped. Someone said it could be crank angle sensor, eventhough there is no CEL. I dont know anymore. I'm ready to give up this is costing a fortune. any input would be great.

ignition coil, spark plug wires passed test today. all ohm readings were within speck per the service manual.

talked to another tuner that is confident he can fix it. he says he has seen this porblem before. However he only uses ECTUNE, idont think I'm intrested in starting all over again.

Come on guys any light bulbs go off yet? Also I have original good dyno plot and the most recent one we just did with the car running like poop. If some one could explain how I could post it up for you guys to see it.

Its a real shame, my car is in damn good shape, made some good power a really nice car. What a disapointment. I'm about to give up...

Guys Ive been spending hours on the net and talking to tuners around the area to solve this problem. I rembered long ago when I first did the P28 ECU replacement I read problems about using the OBDII distributor with that set up. I've seen conflicting info on this website and many others about this. Some say it is a requirement to have OBDI distributor with the P28. I did have CEL9, When I changed distributors the code went away but the car still ran like crap (2nd tune). I'm wondering if this has been my problem the whole time. I need guys who actually run p28 CROME to respond with what distributor they use please.

With stock ECU it throws many codes(I expected this) The timing seems to be off (from cams) VTEC is loud and slow.

The Saga ends, this car has been traded in. I had it for about 4 years. Never did completely solve this problem.

I talked to 3 tuners in the area and did some research myself it seems this would not cause an issue.

sorry to jumped on this too late, but im using the p28 with crome and its giving me cel 9 code, n yea you have to change your distributor. the guy who sold me the map for my p28 said that once i change the distributor i should be making more power right from the back since once the cell light is on, the timing retards automatically. i already have an OBD1 distributor so im changing it pretty soon
