I'm interested in giving my car a little more go, but I don't want to kill the mileage. After I get a new car, which is years from now, I plan on going turbo, but that's a long way off. What mods should I go with that will give me more power without sacrificing mileage? I heard someone mention that their I/H/E setup actually improved their mileage. Any suggestions would really help, thanks

1. If you plan to turbo, wait for aftermarket parts because they will just be wasted later

2. Want better gas mileage? Use your right foot wisely or get a more economical car

Well the turbo isnt going in for a really long time, and for now I would like a little power. The mileage I get is already fine, it's the best out of the 4 family vehicles. I just don't want to lose mileage with any parts. So I figure things like I/H/E would be cool, but I don't want to do something like set my vtec to kick in lower. Know what I mean?

You really need to read the FAQs in the section then. This is a very normal topic and has been discussed many times.

I would also advise you on learning what vtec really is. You appear to have little to no knowledge of how the system actually works (seeing as you think those aftermarket parts will lower your vtec engagement).

Please do some reading and please label threads appropriately. It hinders the site whenever newbies can't search because ppl label their threads so vaguely.

ok I'll do a little more research. I know how a vtec works, what I was talking about was actually getting a vtec controller to lower the engagement. I may not know a lot, but I know that without the controller, the vtec will engage where it already engages. Please don't insult my intelligence One of the problems I have is people labeling their threads so vaguely, so I apologize for that thanks for not much, I'll go dig some more

I didn't want to but you mentioned nothing about a vtec controller in your previous post. Also in most of the h22s with a mild build, lowering vtec won't do much benefit.

Aight lets just kill this now, I don't the reputation of an a-hole on the forum or anything. I meant vtec controller but didn't actually say vtec controller, but I also didn't say anything about i/h/e lowering vtec. Lets just stop that whole argument right now. Agreed? Cool. Now, can you point me to where I can find out exactly what I can mod for now that will not drop my mileage. I tried a couple of searches, but like you said, people don't label their threads good enough and I can't find anything too helpful. I was looking through the FAQs and N/A performance library, but most of that is dyno and power information. I want more power and the same gas mileage. Can you help me with that or at least point me to a good thread? Thanks, and again I don't want any bad blood between us or anything, I'm just a poor newb after all

I already told you. It's your right foot. People have turbos and still get good gas mileage because they stay out of boost.

You should cut down on weight first if you want better gas mileage and it would help performance. Basic bolt-on parts give a bit of power but nothing crazy. They can help with improving gas mileage but a tune up could as well.

Getting a tunable ecu tuned correctly can improve gas mileage and increase some power.

These are all basic things that you can pursue further. Nothing has really changed on this car aftermarket-wise for probably 3-4 years.
