Leptolude's flanges

Got done running the first sucessful set for Brett, thought others might be interested in the progress of the project as well.

lol, so the hold downs I was running turned out to be woefully ineffective. there are vacuum channels under the part that have been more than enough on past materials, but this was my first time with steel. yeah, I'm going to need something a little tighter.

What I found when I came in today:

haha, the program takes ~5 hours to run, and I didn't feel like waiting till 1 am to watch it. the peices broke vacuum and moved around on the final pass. live and learn. good thing its free.

What I should have seen:

and what all the movement caused:

Nice big chunk taken out of one of them. ok, so now it will get its own hold down plugs cut out, and the next set will be locked into place mechanically before milling starts. there are 4 drilling cycles (4 different hole sizes.) so I'll use those holes to lock the peice down to the table in the future.

Sure, but I can't in good faith use Leptolude's drawings. He put the work in, he took the measurements, he did the proper drawings. I couldn't in good conscience use his work and intellectual property for another project. you get some CAD drawings of your own together, and we can talk.

I wasn't trying to steal anyones intellectual property...I just wanted a flange man

I don't have access to CAD, but I do have an exact hand drawing of what I want. Can the drawing be scanned into a CAD program without distorting its measurements? I have no idea how CAD works.

Edit: In all honesty, this is alot of work just for one flange. Maybe Lepto will just sell me one of his.

At least nothing broke Chad. While in school and doing FSAE stuff, I saw an aluminum piece move and it tired to take the end mill with it. It messed up the collet holder (in the spindle) and we couldn't use the machine for a two weeks until it got repaired.

I miss working with CNC machines.

PS. I should note that it wasn't me that let the part come out. It was someone else.

Wow.. why didn't you just get the flanges laser cut? If you decide to go into "production" it would probably cost less in the long run.. and would take way faster than 5 hours to cut the parts..
