How to upgrade my h22a?

I have a 97 lude with a h22a, apexi n1 catback, and aem v2 cai.
I have been saving to upgrade my internals like pistons, rods, cams, etc.
I am looking to get atleast 250whp so does anyone have any suggestions on what i should get? Thanks

Building the block is very expensive. What is your budget?

Unless you're planning on going f/i, i would upgrade the head first. Also, check out blacktrax.net for some manifold options.

For 250 whp, you need to look at the NA library featured builds

It's in the NA (naturally aspirated) forum. The second 'stickied' post, at the top of the forum.

N/A Performance Library (README!)

So does the H22a4 have as much potential as its JDM counterpart? And I've read that 250 is the max HP that the SH can handle....is that true?

The SH can only handle 250 hp "thanks" to the wonderful ATTS crap. In order to get anymore than that you'll have to pull the ATTS system.

base model doesnt have the atts system, so feasibly power limit is based on what your transmission and internals can take. With 1k as your budget though...your best bet for power is a ported/euro intake and a TB with a piggy back tune....that's prolly about it

I have also heard this number because the clutchs in the atts unit can only hadle that much of a load, i wonder if there is a clutch upgrade for the unit

^^^ No chance in hell to be honest, the ATTS for the BB6 is dead in the aftermarket world. If it was going to be out there it would've been out years ago.

Although, it would be theoretically possible to remove the clutches and have them re-surfaced with something more aggressive. Real clutches can be done this way, so I see no reason why ATTS can't do it also. It would take some pioneering spirit by the owner and a clutch fabricator to do some experimental work. Probably not for the simple user.

There's NO 'max' number that the clutches can handle. If the atts unit senses any slippage (hell r compounds do it on a stock prelude) or if the computer senses contradicting information, it'll trip the atts light/disable atts. i've seen 300whp sh's run in a straight line with no problems. i've seen stock sh's run in an autox and throw a code, completely depends on what you're doing. it disables the atts to prevent the unit from breaking, not because it WILL break.
