Hey guys, i just scored a free h22 vtec engine with a bad bottom end. I am looking to build a 200+ whp engine, what build would you recommend? I have semi-limited funds. I have been looking at possibly doing a H22/F23 combo, but i am thinking i would be in over my head there. Thoughts? Ideas?
even with limited funds breaking 200hp wont be hard. Cold air intake, 70mm throttle body, intake manifold, header, and exhaust should get you to 200 with alot of internal work. Just bolt ons and a tune. Maybe get a vafc.

Bigger is not always better when it comes to throttle bodies. Get a size that your build merits. Also with a 70mm throttle body you are going to need to have the intake manifold ported to match to see full enhancements.
i said 70mm cause im pretty sure the inlet on the skunk2 manifold is 70mm
Nah man, I have one sitting in my living room, it is 65mm just as Mike95lude said. With that being said, I've been told by a few members on here that the S2k throttle body will bolt up to it, as (correct me if I'm wrong, anyone) the S2k TB is 65mm?
Not being a dick, lilbill97, just respectfully saying man.
For 1500 your not going to get allot, the machine work is more expensive than your whole budget; if you need to rebuld the bottom end your looking at quite the expense, if you just want to take the head and put it onto another block then you are still gonna need the ohter block, have you heard of the "G23" vtec? It is a frankenstein that is made with h22, f23, and k20 parts....here is the link K24 Vtec V.s. G23 Vtec - Car Forums and Automotive Chat and his guy did it on the cheap, but still far more than what you have planned as a budget. So you are aware, my all motor build has so far cost me around 16,000 just on the engine, it is actually cheaper power to get a turbo than to try and go extreme n/a. The stroker kit from BC is 5000, sleeves are like 500-1000(mind you this i canadien money), the valvetrain from skunk 2 is almost 1700, the itbs are 1500, the list can go on, the lsd 1300, cluch/flywheel 1300, your budget is low if you want an all motor build. Also, you can lose power by using a throttle body that is bigger if you do not have the supporting parts that will make the engine utilize the extra air. Read, study and re read if you are gonna do a build, as they are very expensive and if you do not know what you are getting into then you will be discouraged and more than likely quit....it happens to everyone at some point but the true Honda lover just keeps plugging away and saving money. Put the 1500 in the bank and keep the engine, then when you have saved enough rebuild and they will come...
ps...wanna sell the head?

im in tha process of putting my h22 thru a face lift.... parts alone costin me close to 3K. not counting sending tha block to GE to get bore and hone plus labor
Sell your free engine and buy a N2O setup, then tune it on the dyno. That is the most cost effective hp solution. If you don't want to run N2O (can't say I blame you), sell the freebie engine and buy yourself a JRSC and some tuning.
If you insist on staying NA and only spending $1,500 - $2,000, you won't reach 200 hp. Buy the best bang for the buck mods:
Intake (don't spend a lot)
Header (knock off hytec, used smsp, etc.)
Exhaust (custom 2.5" prefered)
Tuning (neptune, chrome, hondata)
That should eat up your budget pretty quickly. If you have left over money you could either buy a throttle body/Intake Manifold (port matched) with a hondata gasket, or upgrade the cams and valvetrain.
