Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP)

Good morning.

So is there a difference between the OBDI CKP sensor in the distributor, and the new OBDII CKP located on the oil pump near the crank? Do they pass the same signal?

On the prelude it's my understanding it's used to determine crank position AND crank speed. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm trying to spec the differences between the H22A and B18C, as when the B18C went OBDII, it left the CKP in the distributor, and added a CKF, crank fluctuation sensor on the oil pump. It's my understanding the CKP does position and speed (maybe?) and the CKF montitors crank speed as well, using fluctuations to determine misfires etc...for OBDII stuff.

So I'm wondering if the B18C CKF and H22a CKP signals are the same? any idea? How could I test this?

In the H22, CKP is used to determine crank position, and I believe the CYP is used to determine speed. I haven't a clue about the B18C.

First thing to check is to cross-reference sensor p/ns. That will tell youright off if the signals are the same. If not, I doubt they are, but I would then look at how the sensors operate and are tested (Helms).

I don't know if the location made a difference, but every successful JDM swap I've seen swapped the oil pump (sensor) and distributor at the same time. I haven't seen a JDM dist. successfully used on an H22 with USDM ECU without a CEL.

So possibly, the CFK sensor is actually a mirror of the CYP sensor then, just on the crank...to detect differences in the speed of the cam and the speed of the crank..
