costs to switch over partsfrom US to JDM Type S engine

Will have to get a swap done soon. Of course I want a JDM H22 (11:1) with LSD. With my mod list below...how much do you all think I should expect to pay extra in addtion to the swap, and all seals etc, to get my parts switched over to the JDM engine....clutch, pulleys, header, cams etc. I know its WAY easier to do all that with the engine out...thanks for your input/replies. please quote high...and what to pay per hour average for a good shop..

Personally I think you're better off going with a standard JDM H22 especially since you already have cams. I'd buy the long block, swap heads and be done with it, probably wind up wiht similar gains for a lot less. The Type S motors I've seen usually run close to $3k more then a JDM H22.

^^^ Yup, you can go wtih a cometic head gasket to get from that 10.6 to 11:1.

Figure $1300-1500 for the JDM long block
$150 for headgasket
$200 for various seals/gaskets
$1000-1200 for labor on the swap

-$300-500 for the return on the unwanted remaining parts that are leftover. Out the door you're looking at $2500 on the highside to just under $2k on the lower side.

Not too bad to know you have a good solid motor that's going to make nice power.

yumm 11:1

Would I have to clay the block with a thinner head gasket..I have high lift cams as it is... .505

thanks for the quote..puts things into perspective, and is looking good. Was thinking about selling the lude, but now will start saving and have her for a while longer..the head is basically new...what about the JDM tranny with LSD, is that included..that is very important when I do this swap...does that labor quote include that also ?

no the tranny is not include, i think that's another $500-$800.
and also, if you're gonna do this jdm h22 swap into a 5th gen you should check out my post in the 5th gen section. it's got some pretty good info you'll need to know.

Long blocks don't include transmissions so you would have to add another 800 to that. My JDM transmission without LSD was 765 shipped. One with LSD will cost more. If you already have the US VTEC transmission you would be happier getting an aftermarket LSD installed and maybe do a synchro kit at the same time. It will cost twice as much but our synchros suck so it wouldn't be a bad idea to get it out of the way. Quaife is also way better than the LSD honda uses. The only thing you need to have a shop do is the transmission but I don't know how much time and tools you have available to do the rest. I added water pump, oil pump, and timing belt since you really should do them at the same time and some parts that would be inexpensive and easy to do with the engine out. Just some things you might want to consider.

1000 10.6:1 JDM bottem end shipped (I have one available)
125 OBD1 ECU shipped (I have US and JDM available if you don't have one already)
850 Quaife LSD
800 Synchro Kit and all labor to install the LSD and Synchros
250 head gasket
200 seals/gaskets
300 oil pump/water pump/timing belt/manual tensioner conversion
90 hondata im gasket/ES motor mount inserts
110 balancer shaft removal kit
20 to have balancer shaft plugs pressed in
0-1300 depending on how much of the swap you do yourself

thanks!! I;ve done a some more searching also, and saw the post in the 5th gen section...this has helped out a lot guys, once again, putting things into perspective of the costs involved.

is way better than getting a new prelude...and will be the sickness after

but need to know, will there be a problem with the high lift cams .505 and the aftermarket head gasket to bumb up the compression by .5 to 11:1

OR

would it be safer to install some Flat faced valves to bump up the compression by .5 and get a stock head gasket
