Can't get past 6000 RPM

Hi, I've recently bought my first Prelude so I'm new to this forum. Driving home last night, my favourite spot of road was empty so I gave her some welly. VTEC came on as usual but then she woldn't rev any further, just stayed around 6000 RPM in third on a level road. Tried again a couple of times, but same thing. Off VTEC, all is normal and she runs just fine, except I could hear some rattling noice that seemed to come from the exhaust, but when I looked underneath, all looks normal and I couldn't duplicate the rattle on the ramp.

She's in great shape with 88K kms (JDM) on her, but no service history, except seller told me cambelt had been changed. I did change the oil and oil filter and air filter and plugs when I got her, but this hesitation has me stumbled. Could it be the Fuel Filter? She must be starving for either air or fuel or the JDM rev limiter is going wonky. Any ideas where to look?

Many thanks.

i know my rev limiter kicks at 6000 if the motor isnt fully up to temp. wait till you get the temp guage to half and give her the gas again

ive had this problem, if it feels like its gonna die wen you hit around vtec then its probably the fuel filter or it can be the the screen in the vtec solenoid. i had that problem before and after rebuilding the motor, the first time it was the fuel filter and then it was the screen... but 1996preludevtec is right, you have to let it warm up

Definitely check the VTEC solenoid it warming up doesn't work. That can get clogged up and cause this exact problem, although often at a lower RPM. Good luck figuring it out.
