Built head???

Built H22a Head Crower stage 2 camshafts
Crower cam gears, Crower titanium valve springs and retainers, Crower SS valves, Port n' polished to gaskets, all new seals and seats.

what's a good price for this setup? The guy is willing to sell it to me for 1200, but I'm a bit reluctant to buy because my motor is still really new (9k on her). I don't want to slap on the built head and find out that it might mess up my motor. do you think it is safe to put a built head in my motor, knowing that it has been used before. What's the worst that could happen if something were to go wrong. I'm debating whether to take my own head and send it out to get it built rather than buying a used one that has been built already. any advice would be great. thanx

You would be hard pressed to get all that work done by a shop for twice that amount, new.

If it's done right and installed right it should not mess up your motor. The problem is that you will also need a manual tensioner conversion and will have to keep a close eye on the rockers to avoid damage. I would inspect them before buying as that could break the deal (rockers are expensive).

If you take your head off and send it out guess what: your head is used at that point to. If the head you are looking at is in good shape, you are much better off doing that. Spend some money for someone to check out the head before you buy. Make a deal with the seller to split the cost, I think that's fair.

Sounds like a good head setup to me, and at a very nice price indeed. I agree with Marcucci, have it checked out by a trustworthy and compitent mechanic before buying it, and can't stress enough the need for the manual tensioner swap. The autotensioner will not hold up to a head setup like that and would end up dead in a short amount of time.

what is the purpose of the tensioner? i'm also considering a built head before i build the bottom end and will run a built head on my 00 base for a lil bit...i'm going to be getting a fuel rail/FPR/and pullies in the meantime to work my way towards the end result. right now i've not really done anything to the head...only have intake and axleback exhaust.

ok, I will ask my friend who is a mechanic to come with me to take a look at the head. But what should we pay attention to when we are looking at the built head? Also the manual tensioner conversion, I'm a bit new on this but I'll do more research and search around the board for this topic. Meanwhile if you can tell me what parts are require, the amount of work involved, etc that would be great.
